Chapter 5

FIVE

SAVANNAH

I shouldn’t be doing this.

I know I shouldn’t be doing this.

So why the hell am I going ahead with it?

Harley and I are opposites in every way.

I’ve seen him around school in the last few years, always hanging out with his friends, laughing and joking and flirting with girls.

But I’m the complete opposite. I’m the loner type with few friends and like to keep to myself, preferring to sit in the library alone than socialize.

It’s not like we’ll become friends, and I’m certainly not going to become one on the long list of girls he’s been with, so why in the hell did I agree to meet with him?

And why do I plan on going through with it when my father would lose his mind if he found out?

I should be keeping my head down and focusing on reading the textbooks I have to get a head start at college, not constantly thinking about Harley, and certainly not meeting up with him.

The truth is, he intrigues me. There’s just something about him that makes me want to get closer and see under his mask, to see what he’s really like when he's not playing the joker or acting up around his friends.

I want to know who the real Harley Thorn is.

Is he the guy I’ve seen in school, who doesn’t seem to give a fuck about anything or anyone?

Or is he the guy who saved me at the party because I looked uncomfortable?

When I outright asked him what he wanted from me, he showed me vulnerability, and I don’t think something like that can be faked.

I guess there’s only one way for me to get to the bottom of it, and that’s to spend time with him.

Harley isn’t good for me, not when I need to focus on getting my degree and gaining a little freedom, but I just can’t stop myself from wanting to see more of him.

I may be smart, but that doesn’t mean I always make the best decisions, and the more time I spend with him, the more he’s getting under my skin.
