Chapter 10

TEN

HARLEY

I can’t remember the last time I was this nervous, and it’s all because Savannah will be coming over soon. I’m almost jittery, and I’ve paced for most of the morning with my eyes constantly going from the door to the clock, as though I can somehow speed up time.

When I invited her over to have a movie day while my parents are out for the day, I didn’t realize what I was getting myself into.

I’ve never once invited a girl home before, whether it be at one of our vacation homes or our main one, so it feels really freaking weird to know I’m going to have her in my space. In my home.

Not only that, but I feel like maybe she just agreed to come because she didn’t want to say no, which is the worst feeling ever, but surely, she would tell me if she didn’t want to? She’s never had a problem refusing me before, so why would she start now?

You’re overthinking things, Harley.

Things have been going well between us, and we’ve been seeing each other every few days for the last couple of weeks. She was hesitant at first, but I think I’ve finally gotten her to come around.

Ever since the day at the fair, we’d gotten a lot closer.

We text at all hours of the day and night, getting to know each other or going to the beach or around the town just for something to do.

We’ve kissed twice—always chaste—and that’s it.

I usually make sure she’s the one to make the first move because I have no idea how much experience she has, and I don’t want her to feel pressured into anything.

My interest would normally be waning by now, since I’ve never been the type to take things slow, but there’s something about Savannah I just can’t shake.

Every time she laughs, it fills me with something foreign that I’ve never felt before.

Every time she smiles, I can’t help but grin back at her because it’s just so damn contagious.

Every little thing I learn about her leaves me wanting more.

As soon as I wake up in the morning, I’m checking my phone to see if there are any messages from her, and every time I fall asleep, it’s with her on my mind.

I’m fucking falling for the girl, and I don’t want it to stop.

Never in my life have I wanted to spend so much time with someone, but I want to see her every day. I want all of her attention focused on me, and I want her to be obsessed with me as I’m becoming with her.

The doorbell rings, and it’s only seconds later that I’m swinging the door open to reveal Savannah.

Fuck, she’s a vision.

She looks more beautiful now than she did that night at the party, wearing leggings and a hoodie with her hair high on top of her head, her face free from makeup.

I love how she doesn’t feel the need to dress up around me like so many other girls. Sure, whenever we go somewhere, she’ll dress up to a certain extent, but it’s more than that.

When talking to someone else, she slips into the role she’s played her entire life—the one of the billionaire’s daughter. But when it’s just the two of us, she’s just Savannah. My Savannah.

There’s something so fucking sexy about the way she just doesn’t care what I think about her, and honestly, I’d choose comfort over style any day.

Proven by the fact that I’m wearing sweats and a hoodie myself.

Gray, obviously, because I still want to impress her at least a little, and really, who can deny the power of gray sweatpants?

“Hey, pretty girl,” I murmur with a smirk and her lips dip into a small frown.

Damn it, I really thought that would be the one.

It’s a game between us now—me trying to find the perfect nickname for her and her shooting me down every time. No matter, I’ll come up with something perfect eventually.

She bites her lip, her eyes tight with nerves. “Are you… are you going to let me in?

I shake my head, pulling myself back to reality, and move out of the way before gesturing into the house. She shoots me a timid smile and walks past me, leaving me to close the door behind her.

“So, you got me here. What’s the plan for today?” She asks it as though she’s doing me a favor, but I can hear the nerves in her voice and see the trepidation written all over her pretty face.

“I thought we’d hang out in the pool.”

Her face pales and I chuckle. “Relax, I’m kidding. I figured we’d watch a movie.” I nod toward the sitting room where I have everything set up. “I got the snacks ready and everything.”

I had thought about taking everything to my room so we could watch it there, but I wasn’t sure how she’d feel about it and figured I’d play it safe by keeping it PG.

Once she’s finally sat her pretty ass down on the couch, I sit at the other end before swinging my legs up until they’re on her lap. I shift around until I’m lying comfortably.

Her questioning gaze meets mine, and I shrug as much as I’m able to in the position I’m in.

“Gotta get comfy.”

She ducks her face, but I don’t miss the blush that stains her cheeks, and I smile to myself.

We start the movie, and I watch her watch it, content to just lie and stare at her.

If I could do this every day, then I would.

Her facial expressions and reactions to things are far more interesting than whatever is on the TV.

She loses herself in what she’s watching, her hand absently palming my leg before beginning to play with the hairs there, and fuck, why does that feel so nice?

It’s… soothing.

Peaceful.

And so it doesn’t take long for my eyes to feel heavy, and I find myself falling asleep with her company as comfort.
