Chapter 62

SIXTY-TWO

HARLEY

As soon as the professor lets us leave, I’m out the door and heading toward the coffee shop. Since it was the only class I don’t share with Savannah, it felt like it lasted forever.

Luckily, we arranged to meet straight after class, or I’d have just had to track her down and impose on her time that way.

She doesn’t seem to mind my incessant need to see her all the time.

She seems to enjoy hanging out with me as much as I do her, and it’s not just about sex.

Sure, we fuck, but we do more than that too—we study, watch movies, and eat each other’s favorite food.

We tease each other, laugh together, and we just… exist.

It’s been the most fun I’ve had in years.

I’m quick to get across campus, and as I open the door to the coffee shop, the warm and inviting aroma makes me breathe deeply because who doesn’t like the smell of fresh coffee?

When I look around and don’t see Savannah, I figure she’s running a couple of minutes late, so I order drinks before taking a seat.

Five minutes pass, and then ten, and yet there’s still no Savannah. Maybe she got caught up with something and lost track of time?

I pull out my phone and send her a text, my knee bouncing impatiently.

Hey little devil, where are you?

A few minutes go by, and there’s no reply, so I pull up her contact and press call, only it goes straight to voicemail.

What the fuck? Savannah never turns her phone off.

Something’s wrong.

I’m out the door in a blink and heading straight to Savannah’s dorm, planning to check there and then the library, just in case she lost track of time while studying.

One can hope.

I take the steps up to her floor two at a time, not breaking a sweat as I all but run toward her dorm, adrenaline fueling me. I finally reach her floor, and I head straight to the end of the hall, but what I see has my steps stumbling and my heart climbing to my throat.

The door is ajar.

I take slow, measured steps toward it before opening it, and what I see nearly has my legs going out from beneath me—the place is trashed. Completely and utterly destroyed.

It’s clear there was a struggle.

It’s clear that whatever happened, Savannah fought back.

I both love that she did and hate that she had to.

“Sav?” I call out, even though I know it’s useless. Even though I know she won’t reply. Even though I know the only person in this place is me.

There’s no one here.

She’s gone.

But still, I take a look around in case she really is here, or in case someone left something behind.

Her artwork is smashed on the floor, things are thrown everywhere, the bed sheets are lying on the floor in the hallway, and her books are scattered rather than neatly stacked like they usually are.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

I knew I should have tried harder to convince her to stay with us, but she’s just so stubborn, and no matter how much I begged or pleaded, she still wouldn’t agree.

But there’s no time for what-if’s right now. Right now, I need to figure out where she is and who took her, so I can get her back safely.

And there’s only one person I know who can help make that happen.

I take out my phone and call Logan. It rings a few times before we’re finally connected.

“What?” he answers with a grunt, and where I’d normally give him shit for it, this time I just breeze right past it.

“Someone took Sav,” I say, the words coming out in a rush and my voice cracking. “I’m at her dorm, the door was open, and the place is trashed.”

There’s silence, as though he’s processing and then says, “I’ll be there in five,” before hanging up the phone.

Okay, good. Logan’s on his way, and he’ll help find her.

We’re going to find her, there’s no other option.

I want to cry, to rage, to throw even more shit that’s already been thrown in this dorm, but I can’t do that. I need to be strong for her. I need to keep my head together.

I can’t lose it, not when the outcome of that could be losing her.

I need her to be okay. I need to get her back in one piece, safe and sound. I need her to be strong for the both of us. I need her.

Just hold on, baby. Please, be strong and hold on for me.
