Chapter 64
SIXTY-FOUR
HARLEY
I pace Logan’s room as he sits in front of his computer doing fuck knows what.
He came to Sav’s room, looked around for barely a minute, announced that whoever took her must have had some sort of technical device that disabled the security measures he put in place, and then rushed us back here.
Apparently, he needed his computer to look into something, whatever that means.
I’ve barely taken a breath since I realized Sav was gone, unable to stop the panic filling me. We’ve only just figured our shit out, but things keep happening, pulling us apart.
I don’t want to be pulled apart. I want her here with me right now, safe in my arms.
But to do that, Logan needs to get on with whatever it is he’s doing, but he’s just sitting there, staring at the screen.
“We need to go, Logan. We need to be out there, finding her. I can’t just stay here and do nothing. What if she’s hurt? What if she’s in pain? What if she’s…” Gone.
Fuck, fuck, fuck!
I pace even harder, running my fingers through my hair as I think up a number of different scenarios of what she could be going through right now. She’s only just completely healed from the last time she was hurt. What if this time it’s worse? What if this time she doesn’t survive it…
“Fuck,” I scream and kick Logan’s dresser, trying to get out my frustrations.
It doesn’t work.
“You need to calm the fuck down,” Logan grunts, not taking his eyes off the screen. “I’m tracking her right now.”
That stops me short. “What do you mean, you’re tracking her? Her phone was left at the dorm.” I approach him and look over his shoulder at the screen, though I don’t understand a single fucking thing I’m seeing. “What does that mean? Where is she?”
He sighs and runs a palm over his face. “I tracked her using her phone last time, but that’s not what I’m doing right now.
When she got hurt, and I was patching her up, I realized that no matter what we do, we might struggle to keep her safe, and I knew she was a stubborn little shit who wouldn’t end up staying here, no matter how much we told her to.
“So… when she was out of it, I kind of put a tracker in the back of her neck, in case something like this happened. I only had one type on hand, the type that only works once when it’s activated, which is what I’m currently doing.”
“You put a… you put a fucking tracker in her?” I growl and take a step toward him, my blood boiling at the goddamn audacity of this fucker. “Dude, what the actual fucking fuck is wrong with you?! You can’t just go around putting trackers in people. You can’t just put a fucking tracker in Savannah.”
My Savannah.
I’m going to fucking kill him.
Logan holds his hands up in surrender, clearly seeing where my thoughts are taking me. “I know, and I’ll apologize for it later, but right now, we have more important things to worry about.”
I inhale sharply. Fuck, he’s right, but we’ll be coming back to this conversation later. “Where is she, and why the fuck are we just sitting here?”
“We’re sitting here because I’m waiting for it to load and tell me where she is.
As soon as we have a location, we can get the fuck out of here and go get her.
We can’t leave now in case we end up in the wrong direction.
I checked the cameras I had in her room, and she’s been gone for four hours.
Whoever took her used a high-tech jammer, so I didn’t get an alert on anything weird happening.
I should have thought of that possibility. ”
What he’s saying makes sense, but it fucking sucks to just wait here, doing nothing while she’s out there, probably hurting and scared.
God, I bet she’s fucking terrified.
I’m fucking terrified.
“It’s not your fault,” I murmur eventually, knowing exactly how he feels. I want to blame myself too, but this isn’t the time for self-pity and self-reflection, this is a time for figuring out a plan and getting my girl back.
The door to the room swings open, and there stands Lana, a scowl on her face. “What the fuck is going on? I was trying to study, and you two shouting distracted me.”
I quickly fill her in and watch her go from mildly irritated to shocked to burn-the-fucking-world-down furious.
I know the feeling.
Lana starts ranting and raving about how we should have done something sooner, but I’m too busy watching Logan. For the last few minutes, he was just sitting there watching the screen, but now he’s typing. Does that mean he’s found something?
I distantly hear Cole join us, trying to calm Lana down, but I pay him no attention, not taking my eyes off whatever the hell Logan is doing.
“I’ve got her.”
My legs almost collapse from under me. “You do? Where is she? Can we go now?”
“She’s in New York.”
“New York? What the fucking hell is she doing in New York? Do you know where exactly? How are we gonna get there? Do we book a flight? It takes an hour to fly there, and three to drive. We should fly there, we need to see if there are any flights like, right the fuck now. And what do we do when we get there?” I’m pacing again, the words spilling from my lips as different thoughts keep hitting me.
What if she’s not even there when we get there?
What if she’s hurting? What if he’s fucking sold her? What if he’s—
“Harley,” Cole barks, and I snap my attention to him.
He’s wearing a look of pity, and I want to punch the stupid look off his stupid face.
He holds up his phone. “I have a plane waiting for us, we can go now,” he says softly, and I notice that Lana has disappeared, and Logan is behind me, grabbing stuff from his closet.
I nod and swallow thickly.
“What about when we get there?”
“I’ll have people waiting to meet us, everything will be fine, Harley. Don’t worry,” Logan says, and I exhale shakily.
I’m going to get her back.
I have to.
There’s so much more we need to do together, so much more I have to learn about her. We need more time together. Fuck, I’ll take a lifetime of it if I can.
After this shit is over, I’m never taking my eyes off her again. I don’t care what she says, she’s not leaving my fucking sight. Not when this is what happens when she does.
