Chapter Thirty-One
Lily
I dart my tongue out, feeling the cracked skin on my lips and agonizing pain throughout my face.
Something liquid runs past my eye off my cheek.
My hands are bound behind my back, a shoulder lodged into my stomach, and my feet refuse to spread apart.
I try to open my right eye, but a shooting pain stops me.
I force my left eye open to see the ground below me, feet crunching against the rocks six feet below.
The sound of a plane engine hums in the background.
“What do you mean it didn’t go through?!”
I try to zone in on the voice yelling in the distance.
“How can she already be married?!”
I try to lift my head, my neck straining with the motion, and I swallow the bile that rises in my throat. I want to give him a big fuck you smile. I want to see his face when he realizes he has lost.
“Get her. She’s fucking waking up.”
A sharp pain flows through my neck and I try to fight to keep my eyes open, but they feel so heavy, and all I want to do is slee—
