Chapter 7

SEVEN

When Tuesday woke up the next morning, she was sore all over, but it was the good kind of sore. It told the story of a passion-filled night. Then regret hit her. She rolled over slowly and saw that Biggie was already awake and seemingly waiting for her to wake up.

“Morning, baby mama.”

She pulled the thick sheet up, sighing.

“Good morning, Big.”

She grabbed her iPhone where it had been discarded on the nightstand and noticed it was still early; thank God.

“I have to get Wallis to my mom’s so I can get to work.”

Suddenly, she felt unsure about her actions the night before.

Her vagina had done the talking for her last night, and now her mind was kicking in.

She couldn’t keep having sex with Biggie.

That would complicate things too much, but as she glanced over at him, she noticed her heart did a little flip.

Before, it had been so much easier. They had a clear understanding last time that it was a one and done situation.

They couldn’t have known that wouldn’t be true, but still.

Now, she knew she would have to see him damn near every day because of Wallis, and having sex severely complicated things.

“Why you gotta drop him off at your moms? He can stay here.”

Tuesday stilled.

“Don’t you have…things to do today?”

He shook his head. “I can kick it with lil’ man.”

“Biggie…I don’t know. What if you get another call from Demo or something?”

“Then I’ll have Demo handle it. If it makes you feel better, we won’t even leave the house.” He tapped her thigh and then moved his hand upward. “And since that clears up a little more time for you…”

Tuesday hopped up, naked as the day she was born.

“Biggie, we can’t do this again. Last night was a mistake.”

Biggie didn’t seem fazed as he looked her up and down.

“Tell that wet pussy that.”

Rolling her eyes, Tuesday stomped to the bathroom before closing the door, not appreciating Biggie’s laughter. She sighed heavily, knowing that she needed to draw a line between them to keep things running smoothly for Wallis’s sake.

“Thanks for helping, Mama,” Tuesday said as they cleaned up after a huge rush.

“Since I didn’t have my grandson, I figured I’d come help. How are things with Biggie.”

Tuesday stiffened as she wiped off the back counter. “I don’t know, honestly.”

Her mom placed a hand on her shoulder. “What does that mean, honey? I know none of this is easy for you. Talk to me.”

Tuesday exhaled, filling her mom in on everything that had transpired. She and her mom were close, so it was nothing for Tuesday to be honest with her.

When she finished her story, her mom pulled her in for a hug.

“Oh, baby. Motherhood is the hardest thing you’ll do, but it’s also the most rewarding. Do you want to know what the second hardest thing about life is?”

When they pulled away, Tuesday asked, “What, Mama.”

“Relationships.”

Tuesday’s eyes bugged out. “Ma—”

“Just hear me out. You and Wallis Senior have created life together. That’s powerful. I think he needs to learn how to be a father and stop running the streets, but I can tell you like him, baby. When was the last time you were interested in a man?”

Tuesday had to think about it. It had been that long. She sighed.

“This just all seems to be happening so fast. I don’t even know him, but we’re bound together for life. It feels like things are all out of whack and happening out of order.”

Her mother giggled.

“That, my love, is called life. Who says you guys can’t date now?”

Tuesday thought about it.

“I don’t even know if that’s what he wants. What if he only wants sex?”

“What if he doesn’t?” she countered. “Why not ask?”

“You’re not wrong,” Tuesday finally admitted. “As usual.”

“A mother usually knows best. I would love to formally meet this young man. He’s family now.”

“Yeah, I guess. I’ll make sure that happens, but give us some time to get adjusted. After last night, I’m not even sure what will happen next. The last thing I want is for us to get caught up in a friends with benefits situation. I don’t think I can handle that.”

“Because you like him.” Her mom bumped her hip against Tuesday’s.

Tuesday had to think about what her mom said.

She was definitely attracted to Biggie, and she appreciated that he wanted to take such good care of their son.

There was also undeniable chemistry between them, but she had no idea what he wanted.

Hell, she didn’t even know if he had a girlfriend already.

She didn’t know if he was the type to have multiple women… there was just so much to figure out.

Taking a deep breath, she reminded herself that she didn’t have to figure it out at that moment.

She was thankful when a customer walked up to the truck, because the more she could stay distracted, the better.
