Epilogue
After Song Yuzhang and I got married, we soon had a child.
The Song family still could not accept me.
No elders from the Song family attended our wedding, because they simply did not acknowledge me as their daughter-in-law.
I was an orphan and had no elders at all.
Song Yuzhang still held the wedding regardless.
On the surface, it looked like Song Yuzhang had been betrayed yet still insisted on being with me.
He had put in more.
But actually, at least he dared to invest himself wholeheartedly and dared to love.
He seemed full of unlimited confidence.
I did not even have the courage to give my true heart.
I had nothing.
I did not dare.
I did not have enough confidence.
It looked like I was the one being loved, but if Song Yuzhang ever regretted being with me and felt he had lost too much, I did not know if I would be struck down and never recover.
So back then I would absolutely never have refused the money Song's Mother brought.
A future I could grasp in my hands was more reliable than the love of an immature guy.
We met again.
He was high and mighty, desperately finding all sorts of reasons to get back together with me.
I was always doing abstract things to cover my fluster and awkwardness.
I used to think I could not maintain a long-term relationship with anyone.
Because I had no sense of security.
Because I knew I lacked love and would easily fall in deep.
So before others abandoned me, I abandoned them first.
After marrying Song Yuzhang, I still kept my guard up, saving money every day, ready to leave at any time.
In the tenth year of our marriage, we still had not divorced.
We had even had two kids.
I became a very famous screenwriter.
Going to do Food Delivery back then was a job I found to experience life.
Over these years, I often took on various jobs to gain life experience and find inspiration.
I even worked as a secretary for Song Yuzhang.
We even played out forced love in the office.
I begged him in front of people: "President Song, I'm really married. Please let me go."
It once ruined Song Yuzhang's reputation. Everyone thought he liked married women and was morally corrupt.
The Song family still did not accept me.
But they could accept our pair of children.
Seeing that Song's Mother liked her grandson and granddaughter, I often let the two little ones go back to keep grandpa and grandma company.
People thought I wanted to please my mother-in-law to get accepted into the family.
But I was really aggrieved.
From what I saw, Song's Mother seemed wholeheartedly for Song Yuzhang, yet he never showed he appreciated it.
Song's Mother had already suffered heavy losses. I naturally would not kick her when she was down by making my children not close to their grandma either.
I had no need to do such a thing.
Besides, having one more person love my kids made me happy too.
As time passed, I was no longer that girl without a sense of security.
I became much more composed.
Many new elements joined my life, like the kids, and my increasingly successful career.
I could handle many things with ease and became much more confident.
I could calmly accept Song Yuzhang's love and possessiveness.
And I could passionately respond to him.
We had argued many times, big and small.
Digging up old scores, who owed whom, different personalities, different living habits, plus the responsibilities and pressures of parenting, different parenting concepts, all made up the trivial bits of life.
But late at night in the quiet, we could still embrace each other in the dark.
I felt I should cherish Song Yuzhang.
After all, there was basically no one else as persistent as him in wanting to be with me.
Anyone could abandon me for all sorts of things.
Song Yuzhang still had not abandoned me yet.
He took a deep breath. He also seemed to feel he should be content.
Although the arguments made him so angry his liver hurt, it was still better than being alone late at night looking at our photo and crying.
So he held me tightly.
If I insisted, he could apologize.
Some people loved fame and fortune, power and wealth.
He of course also loved those.
But after getting them, what he felt was emptiness and loneliness.
So he ranked the important times in his life.
Being with me came first.
Otherwise he could not resist the emptiness of life.
For him, there was only one Mom.
And only one me.
Mom would forgive him sooner or later.
I would take off whenever I wanted.
