11. Chapter 11 #3
“Oh! I know, where’s Luna today? Hope she’s having a nice, relaxing day off after working all week,” he smirks, heading to the fridge for some milk and comes back to me, glaring at him.
“Careful, Min-Joon, keep pissing me off, and I’m one second away from sending a screenshot of your choice of breakfast.” I threaten, ready to unleash his Korean mother on him for his unhealthy, unbalanced choice of food.
“You cunt.” he scoffs, pouring the milk on his chocolate cereal.
“For God’s sake, excuse me for trying to make sure you weren’t still trying to find ways to get rid of Theo’s new favourite person,” he adds.
“Yeah, well, that plan is failing so far because she’s immaculate at her job, and I have no idea where she is because she was gone before Theo, and I even woke up,” I reveal, cursing myself for showing interest after I’d just convinced Min-Joon that I wanted nothing to do with my new employee whatsoever.
“Interesting,” Min-Joon said, taking his time to pull the spoon from his mouth.
“Hardly,” I mumbled, acting as if I didn’t have the same question haunting me since last night and was willing to do anything to get off the subject of my hired help.
“So did you ask her where she went, when she got back?” he asks, using his spoon to coat his cereal with milk while eating another spoonful.
“No, she isn’t even back yet,” I respond instantly, closing my eyes in regret. What the hell was wrong with me today?! I open my eyes again to see Min-Joon freeze, mid-bite, before putting his spoon down, grinning at me like the Grinch.
“Even more interesting! She’s been gone all day, and it’s what? Past 10 pm over there, and you seem to be waiting for her to get home,” he points out, sounding as if he cracked the case of the century.
“I’m hanging up on you again.” I threaten, but stop when he asks a certain question, one filled with the same amount of curiosity I have, making it harder to get rid of him.
“Where do you think she is?” he asks, lifting his brows, to which I cave.
“I have no idea! But she’s been gone for more than seventeen hours. Where the hell do you go for that long?” I ask back.
I could actually do with some of his insight.
“I don’t know, could she have another job? Are you paying her enough?” He asks, acting as if he’s giving himself the right to tell me what to do.
“No, that’s not possible. There’s a clause in the contract that states she isn’t allowed to have another job whilst working for me because it could be a potential distraction away from Theo, not that she read it.
” I state, I wondered how she’d react when she read that clause, but instead was shocked at how fast Luna signed her contract without even reading past the third page.
“And yes, of course I’m paying her enough; you should have seen her face when I offered to pay her more than the agreed rate,” I smirk, replaying the memory, only a second though, replacing it with my usual scowl.
“Got any other suggestions?” I ask because I can’t come up with any, and Min-Joon is a quick thinker, so I’m relying on him. He pauses, munching on the last of his cereal as he gives it some thought.
“Maybe she went to see her boyfriend,” he suggests, making my shoulders stiffen.
“Think about it, if she’s anything like you said, she’s far too beautiful to be single and probably has a man who works all week as she does; the weekend seems like the only available time they’d have to see each other.”
“And she probably left early because it meant they’d have the time to spend the whole day in bed together,” he smirks, because that was exactly what he’d want to do if he were in a relationship right now.
But the more words that came out of his mouth, the more I wanted to punch him in that exact spot.
“You know what, I don’t need your help on this. Change the subject before I hang up on you for real this time.” I growl, unhappy with the thoughts he has now put into my head. Thankfully, Min-Joon is done pushing my buttons for the day and finally tells me about how his research project was going.
I pay attention in the beginning, but the longer we talk before hanging up, the later it gets, the more his stupid suggestion starts to live rent-free in my head, and it didn’t stop there; the suggestion only feels more realistic when I check the Ring doorbell to see Luna had come in the house a few minutes past eleven.
She set the alarm as I told her to, then I heard her in the kitchen for a while before she tiptoed her way upstairs. After that, my curiosity had rendered me useless for the night.
Yet, I remained in my office chair trying to convince myself that I didn’t give a shit about where Luna went or who she had been with all day until eventually I decided it’s just better to sleep off my bad mood, so I locked my office for the night and headed upstairs to bed.
Where I didn’t get an ounce of sleep because apparently my brain cared more about the lucky fucker who had a girl like Luna to call his own, rather than the fact my body was so tired, it wanted to hibernate for the winter.
