21. Chapter 21 #2
The buzzer to indicate GO sounds off, and the bumper cars spark to life.
Luna and Theo are laughing at the top of their lungs as Luna manoeuvres her way around the track, colliding with the other cars.
She’s pretty good. Then I remember Nigel told me that she does have her driving licence, but doesn’t like to drive.
I then think maybe the fact that she’s good at crashing into other cars is a good thing; she doesn’t drive an actual car.
She and Theo are both enjoying themselves, whereas I’m still trying to figure out how to drive with my long legs pressed to my chest because it was the only way I could fit in the small-ass car.
As soon as I get the hang of driving forward a few inches, a car revs into the back of me, my neck jerks forward, giving me temporary whiplash. I whip my head around, making it worse, but I had to know who the asshole who just attacked me was.
“Ha-ha, we got you!” Theo laughs, pointing at me as Luna smirks deviously, swerving the steering wheel, allowing her to reverse. It’s the sexiest thing I’ve seen all day, and I oogled her perfectly round backside in that dress when we walked in earlier, but I can’t let that distract me.
“OH, I’ll get you back!” I yell over the screams and spark sounds of the bumper cars working but they have already gotten away, quickly readjusting myself, meaning my knees have to hang out slightly on either side of the bumper car, was going to give me pins and needles once I got out, but it is easier to drive since I do manage to bump into a few more people but I suddenly can’t see to find-
**BUMP**
“Got you, again.” Theo giggles as Luna drives away, laughing at the top of her lungs.
That’s it! I spun the steering wheel and went speeding after them, but I didn’t get far thanks to two cars coming at me, one from the front and one from behind.
Making my head whip back and forth like a bobble-head.
A loose curl escapes my neatly styled hairstyle and falls across my forehead.
I reach up to sweep it back in place when-
**BUMP**
“For a man who drives daily, you’re pretty awful at this, Ollie.
” Luna smirks, with eyes that say ‘fuck you’, I assume, referring to payback for how I’ve been treating her lately and as much as my blood should boil at the fact that she just called me by a name that I only give Theo permission to use, it only made me want to fuck that smile off her face.
But I have to settle with a scowl whilst reversing and charging forward to crash into them, yet again. Luna manages to snake her way through the cars and get away before I can catch her.
“Come and get us, Ollie,” she teases, stopping the car as a taunt, then speeding off the moment I seem to catch up. For fuck sake, this woman very well might be the death of me, considering the day has only started and I’m already leaving the first stall with whiplash and a boner.
“That was so much fun!” Theo screams, throwing his hands in the air as we walk around the funfair, trying to decide where to go next.
“It was; we should go again,” Luna suggests with a devious grin while looking in my direction. With my hand currently attempting to massage my sore neck, I glare at her with all my might, something I don’t even think works anymore, because if it does, she doesn’t let me see it.
Bumper cars.
What a stupid idea.
What idiot invented such a thing?
If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have to text Nigel to book me in with my chiropractor sometime this week, thanks to my little brother and that vixen Luna.
I have no idea how she did it; they must have bumped into me at least six times in the space of the four minutes the ride lasts, and that isn’t including the number of children and others who bumped into me also.
Luna laughing and smirking at me every time is the reason I had to take longer to pull myself out of the car to adjust my pants to hide my erection. I don’t know what is going on with this thing and why it revolves around Luna of all people.
“CAN WE PLAY THIS NEXT??” Theo squeals, letting go of Luna’s hand to run towards the rubber duck stand.
There is no question why, considering he stopped right in front of the giant green Yoshi plush; the thing was bigger than him, hanging from the ceiling of the tent.
Luna stands behind him, with her hands on his shoulders.
“How about we win you the Yoshi?” she asks, bending down to look at him, but all it does is give me the best view of her ass. Ironic that she’s covered in hearts when the shape of a heart is derived from a woman bending over.
“You’re gonna win it for me??” Theo asks, bounding on his heels, looking up at Luna with stars in his eyes.
“Ollie is going to win it for you,” Luna declares. She and Theo both turn around to me. First, I shoot her a subtle glare, then turn to Theo.
“Course I will, bud,” I reply with a smile, approaching them, waiting for Theo to turn back around and glue his eyes to the giant Yoshi so I can pinch Luna’s waist. She jumps slightly, glaring up at me now that I’m standing next to her.
“Don’t push your luck with that nickname,” I murmur to her in a low tone before I haul over the guy running the stand.
“Or what? You’ll avoid me again,” she scoffs, lighting a fire inside me.
I tug on the side of her dress where I just pinched her; it startles her like I wanted it to, but there isn’t enough time to respond verbally as the stall guy asks for my tokens and hands me a wooden stick with a metal hook at the end.
“You gotta get four big ducks to win the big prizes,” he states in a monotone voice, then swivels his eyes to Luna. Suddenly, as if he’d come back to life, he stops slouching and steps closer to stand in front of her.
“But for you, beautiful, I could knock it down to three,” he flirts, running his hand through his greasy, fading hairline. The ugly mug was at least twice her age. Anger twitches from my lip as I lean over to grab one of the big ducks and change direction, so the pole jabs into his side.
“My bad.” I deadpan, with the same glare that makes my interns shiver in fear.
His shoulders instantly slump as he turns away, walking to the other side of the tent, and he’d better honour what he said, cause even getting three ducks was a bit extreme when these fuckers were heavy, but that’s how they get you.
Of course, it’s no struggle for me. Once the sleazy bastard is gone, I unhook the first duck and put it on the counter as Theo cheers, “YAY!! Two to go!” and points to which one he wants me to go for next, when I feel her burning her gaze into my jaw.
“What?” I ask, glancing at her, then focusing on looping the second duck around the metal hook.
“You’re just so difficult to figure out,” she states, shaking her head, then turning to Theo and pulling out her phone. The two of them take a selfie together as I place the second duck down next to the first.
“Ollie, can I help catch the last one?” Theo asks with puppy dog eyes, his most dangerous weapon, next to that smile of his.
“Sure, you can, bud. But you gotta hold on tight cause they’re heavy,” I explain, stepping back a little so he can stand in front of me and place his hands over mine after he points out which one he wants to fish for; then we line it up to hook it.
The sound of a camera clicking next to us distracts me for a second, as I glance to see Luna videoing us. She must have taken a photo too; we end up staring at each other for a beat, then I turn back as Theo and I hook the last duck.
He jumps, throwing his arms out in victory… Had I not been in sync with how he reacts when he’s excited, he would have headbutted me straight in the chin, but luckily, I stepped back in time, then flicked my finger to call over the sleaze bag from earlier.
Luna still has her phone out and takes a few pictures of Theo whilst the guy takes down the Yoshi and hands it to him.
Looking just like a child on Christmas morning, his grin is so wide it might just break, and he can’t stop bouncing, but he waits patiently for Luna to take a few more shots before he starts inspecting his new toy more closely.
Luna then walks back over to us, and I’m so focused on her that I don’t notice the small puddle of water the ducks I collected made or the fact that the greasy sod picks them up and slaps them back down on the counter, soaking my shirt.
Luna bursts into laughter, the same wheezy hyena-type laugh I’ve heard before, while I give him a look powerful enough to kill.
“Oh, my bad,” he mocks, getting me back to earlier, when a lady appears out of nowhere and slaps him in the back of the head.
I like her.
“Chester, what do you think you’re doing?! Apologise right now!” she demands as the sleazebag now known as Chester rubs his head, apologising to me properly while I look down at my wet shirt.
An expensive white button-up, and yet it becomes practically see-through when wet, something I only notice because Luna hasn’t stopped looking at me since this woman showed up. They both have their eyes on the wet patch.
“Go and get him something new to wear, right now!” she orders as Chester doesn’t say a word; he just grumbles under his breath, jumping over the stall to fetch me a new shirt.
“I’m so sorry, Mr Walters. My older brother seems to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed.
Please don’t be too mad,” the woman begs.
Given that she knows who I am, she must be one of the organisers here.
The fact that I’m the one who was responsible for this funfair and their jobs- at least someone respected that.
“Not at all, my son is enjoying himself as long as that doesn’t change; we won’t have a problem,” I reply, looking at Luna, whose eyes are still glued on my shirt. I then look over her shoulder to see little Chester returning.
