26. Chapter 26 #2
The memories of what we did last night have been stuck on loop from the moment I woke up alone this morning. I woke up pissed to see she’d left while I was still asleep.
But, regardless of what she and I did last night, she still has a job to do, and we both know how bad it would be if Theo caught us together when there isn’t even an ‘us’.
Ugh, just thinking about it left a bad taste in my mouth, but why?
It wasn’t as if casual sex was new to me.
Yes, sleeping with Luna wasn’t a part of the plan, nor was kissing her twice; I did it anyway.
Maybe it was a good thing Luna left when she did because I’d rather her not see the way I woke up, startled and broken out in a sweat.
The downfall of having sex with Theo’s nanny was a nightmare.
I’m determined not to let it come true, and I was 85% sure it wouldn’t.
Judging by what Luna told me last night, and everything I’ve analysed her from day one.
The only bad part was that we had sex with no contract in place, something I’ve never done before.
The calendar girls all knew what to expect; they knew the benefits and consequences, whereas Luna, the poor beautiful thing, knows nothing.
She’s unaware of the effect she has on me, doesn’t have a contract binding her to do as she’s told, and worst of all, she’s like a rose, so delicate that she wears her heart on her sleeve, but pushes her too far and out come the thorns.
She had ‘He’s gonna fire me,’ plastered on her face this morning, which is why I had to act, to stop her from spending the whole day spiralling like I was.
Even if I could turn back time, I wouldn’t undo what I did, from the way she tasted on my tongue to the sexy sounds she made. I was a goner from the moment she cornered me outside Theo’s room, wagging that sexy finger at me. How the hell could I resist? Especially after she gave me consent.
We are both grown adults, so who was I not to fuck her, instead of spending my time jerking off in a cold shower thinking about the same woman?
Did I have any clue what we were going to do now? Fuck no. Is having sex with Luna again all I can think about? God, yes, but I wasn’t a heartless asshole, and I usually did things properly and with a plan.
Therefore, if this was going to continue, she and I needed to talk about it later when I get home. Once this meeting is over, I plan on having Nigel draw up a contract of some kind. All I needed to do first was get through the day and take things from there.
****
The rest of my day is exhausting. I had to work through lunch to catch up on cases, and I still need to go through my next pro bono case when I get home. I had to allocate time to talk to Luna, and if things go the way I want them to, there will be zero work involved.
The last thing I do is get up to speed about that meeting I missed in the morning because a certain brunette won’t leave my mind, and I only have part of an idea why.
This has never happened before, and it’s most definitely not the first time I’ve had sex, so I have no idea why my brain and dick are catching feelings, but I’m putting a stop to that right now.
Even if we decide to keep sleeping together, it doesn’t mean my heart is allowed to start pretending that I want something more.
By the time I make it home, I’m over an hour late. I pull up outside and glance at the contract, sticking out of the pocket of my briefcase. Climbing out of the car and walking up to the door, the moment it’s open, the house is filled with wheezing type laughter that goes straight to my cock.
I have to take a moment to tell her to calm the fuck down; all she did was laugh. My heart is next to be lectured as it jumps up and down in my chest just by hearing Luna’s voice.
Maybe continuing this was a bad idea; I can’t even control my body. I enter the house, frustrated with myself, when I realise Luna is on the phone. I turn to close the door and try to figure out who she’s talking to, but the moment the door clicks shut, she hangs up.
Okay.
Well, that’s the second time she’s done that; the first was on her first day, and she had no idea I’d heard some of the conversation. Granted, I don’t know who she was talking to, but I have a feeling it’s the same person. As before, I took it as a sign that she had a boyfriend.
But both times, my presence is the reason she hung up, and if I’m correct, I can bet she was either talking about the same thing as last time, or me, or more likely both.
Something - I plan to bring it up later because I need answers.
I snap out of my thoughts when I hear Theo’s slippers sliding towards me, and I bend down to scoop him in my arms. He hugs my neck tightly, giggling at the way I tickle his sides and carry him deeper into the house.
“You’re late!” Theo tells me off, pulling away to hold my face so I can see his frown. His little eyebrows are trying very hard to knot together, much like mine when he’s pushing his boundaries.
“I know, bud. I’m sorry! Nigel and I had a lot to do, but I did make it in time to tuck you in, didn’t I?” I point out, catching Luna’s figure in my preferred vision, standing in the living room doorway. We nod at each other before Theo pulls my face back towards him.
“If we talk to Min-Joon, I’ll forgive you!” Theo debates, squashing my cheeks so I’m making the duck face.
He then puckers his little lips, making Luna giggle in response, pleasing my ears as I raise my eyebrows at my little brother.
“And who taught you to be such a good negotiator?” I ask as Theo silently expresses that he doesn’t know what that word means, but regardless, he still answers.
“You did!” Then starts laughing, and seconds later, the three of us are laughing at his wit; that stupid twinge in my chest reappears as I climb down from my laughter and carry Theo upstairs.
I tuck him into bed and pull my phone from my blazer pocket and call Min-Joon.
As usual, it’s around 4 - 5 a.m. there, but he picks up after two rings and greets Theo with a big smile.
The two of them catch up as I slip out of the room and make my way downstairs quickly and quietly to find Luna.
Finding her in the kitchen, wiping down the counters, I can’t help myself.
I allow my hands that are itching to touch her to take hold of her waist and pull her towards me.
Her body spins, and her palms land flat on my chest; her eyes are wide, and her lips are parted with surprise.
God, I want to kiss her so bad, and I almost do, but I see something in her eyes.
Now, I know she’s spent the majority of today freaking out - she’s not okay.
Something is wrong.
Every day when I come home from work, she’s never had this look on her face. I don’t know what it is; given she hasn’t fought to escape my grip, I know it’s because of me. I lean down, tugging her face closer with my hand on her jaw.
She’s trying to hide from me, which only makes me want to know who dimmed the spark out of her eyes so I can destroy them. I try to decipher what’s bothering her, but she’s doing a good job hiding it, so I decide to give her some time.
I plant a small kiss on her forehead, then slip her hand into mine and lead her upstairs.
She doesn’t say anything and blindly follows.
As we pass the front door, I pick up my briefcase with my free hand, and we make our way up the stairs.
I tug her down the hall and set her to stand next to my bedroom door.
“Stay,” I ask gently, softer than usual.
I’m not sure what is distracting her so much, but I sense that being too forward right now isn’t going to work in my favour.
She nods in response, watching me walk back into Theo’s room as his call with Min-Joon comes to an end.
I tuck Theo in, and he’s out like a light.
I mumble to Min-Joon that I’ll call him soon and hang up the phone before he can catch a glimpse of Luna waiting for me, and put my phone back in my blazer pocket. He, of course, tries to call me back, but I don’t answer; I close Theo’s door and guide Luna into my bedroom.
As much as I want to sit on my bed and pull her into my lap, cause I feel suffocated not having her near me now that we’re in the same proximity. However, I resist. Letting her lean against the door, the moment it shuts.
“Are you going to tell me what happened?” I ask, slipping off my blazer and throwing it on the armchair a few feet away.
Meanwhile, I walk over and stand by the bed, my eyes never leave Luna’s. She stares at me, furrowing her brows, and her cute button nose scrunches in confusion, but it then returns to normal. She shakes her head; it hurts, she won’t let me in, but I can accept she’s maybe trying to protect herself.
“Is it…me?” I question. I have to make sure I’m not the asshole dulling her shine, regardless of how pathetic it was for me to ask that. Thankfully, though, the second shake of her head does ease the sickly feeling in my stomach.
“Then, do you mind if I do the talking for a while?” I tilt my head to look at her better, and she nods again.
“I don’t consider last night a mistake, nor does it affect your job, so like I told you earlier, you’re not fired, and you won’t be.
If anyone breached our contract, it was me.
I made the first move.” I clarify, checking if that’s the reason she hasn’t smiled since I came home, but it isn’t; there’s no change; the fade in her eyes is still there.
“I understand you must be confused about my intentions, but I’d very much like it if we did it again, and again. I’d very much like to taste you again,” I add, watching carefully as she stares at me. She looks as if she’s searching for something within me, but I doubt she’ll find anything.
I consider myself dead inside.
