Chapter 47
My eyes slowly began to open—the room was ridiculously bright.
As everything came into focus, I looked around at my surroundings and didn’t recognize a damn thing.
I was in what appeared to be a hospital room.
I heard movement and turned my head to see Bonnie.
She looked unscathed and that made me smile.
“Joslyn, you’re awake,” she said cheerfully.
“I guess I am,” I said, not sure of what happened since the cabin. The cabin. Maddox! “Maddox!” I half yelled at her as I instinctively tried to get out of the bed. My brain was beginning to remember.
“About that, honey, I am going to need you to calm down for a second.” She came closer to the bed.
“It didn’t work.” Tears started to fill my eyes and my vision blurred.
“No, no, no,” she said, putting her hands on top of mine. “Maddox is alive. Thanks to, you. There is just something that you two need to talk about.”
“I can’t take any more surprises, Bonnie. I’m fucking serious. You are one of my favorite people, but I have had a rough couple of days. Don’t make me fire you.”
“Oh Joslyn, calm down. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing. He isn’t leaving you for some four-hundred-year-old narcissistic bitch, or anything like that.” I burst into laughter, and she joined in.
“You’re a smartass,” I said, still laughing.
“Sometimes,” she said with a warm smile.
“Where are we anyway?” I asked.
“We are in Ireland. This is vampire headquarters.” Maddox appeared in the doorway. I started crying again. Bonnie turned, seeing why.
“I will give you two some time.” She picked up her purse from the chair and exited the room, shutting the door behind her.
Maddox walked over to the bed and kicked off his shoes.
I scooted and he climbed in next to me. He wrapped his arms around me, and I sobbed into his chest. He just held me and let me cry.
He didn’t say a word until I was able to calm myself down.
Seeing him standing in front of me, alive, was something I was positive wasn’t going to happen.
“I didn’t think it worked.” Those were the first words that I could get out. He looked down at me, tears still flowing. He kissed me gently.
“Thank you for saving my life. You almost killed yourself to do it. If no one would have gotten to us, you would have died.”
“I didn’t want to be here without you. I couldn’t be.”
“I have to tell you, though. It shouldn’t have worked; you giving me your blood. Human blood couldn’t have healed me.”
“But it did work.”
“Yes, and human blood can’t do that.”
“Maddox, I am fucking human. What the hell are you talking about?”
“I am saying that humans can’t do that.”
“This is starting to piss me off. I am not a vampire, a shapeshifter, a witch, or a werewolf so I guess I am having trouble connecting the dots here. Let’s pretend I’m an idiot.”
“There is only one kind of blood that could have brought me back from physically killing my maker. Just one.”
“Okay, so are you going to keep speaking in code or are you going to fucking tell me?”
“Joslyn, you are half Fae.” I was dumbfounded and tried to let his words sink in. This made no fucking sense though. I am not a fairy! Right? Right!?
“I need to talk to my mother. Right fucking now!”
