CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
ISAAC
––––––––
“Good girl, stay nice and quiet in there for a few minutes.” I drop the walls of the housekeeping trolly and get ready to move.
The fact that Cassy is doped up with liquid G from the spiked wine she was drinking, and that I’ve stuffed her mouth and bound her arms and legs, means she won’t exactly be climbing out or screaming in any hurry.
But this part is going to be the most dangerous.
Well, aside from breaking out of Leavenworth penitentiary.
I plug in my headphones and push the trolley out of the side room, acting shocked when I run into a whole bunch of armed security. I startle and one of the men almost runs into me.
“Move!” he yells, and I press the trolley to the wall.
Of course, he’s not interested in me. I came from another room. Plus, thank you, colored contacts and costume shops. I have a mustache, blue eyes, and long, dark hair. Plus, the reading glasses just finish it off nicely. Along with the uniform.
I hardly recognize myself.
“Sorry,” I say nervously, and move out of their way.
The dirty dishes and linen on top play to my act as I quickly jog along the hall to the large kitchen.
I bite my lip to stop from shouting out, “She’s in here, she’s in here!” Which might be arrogant, but I’ve outsmarted them all. I have reason to be proud of myself.
All I need to do now is get Cassy out the back entrance through the kitchen.
Soldier One leans against the wall and then reacts when he sees me.
“Do it,” I say as I pass him, shoving the money I owe them into his hand.
His eyes widen at the folded-up cash. Probably more than he’s ever had in his life. He probably thinks he just hit the jackpot.
Louise did.
But look how that turned out for her.
“Dude, you sure about this?” he asks. “Won’t people get hurt?”
For fuck's sakes. We talked about this.
Of course they won’t, I told him—they will. I also said don’t throw the fireworks at people, which you’d think was fairly obvious.
Clearly not.
So I told him to toss it into the air near the water fountain in the lobby. Then hightail it out of there.
I have to think of every damn thing.
“Go,” I grunt, then turn the trolley and push through the large double doors into the operations area and park the trolley. It’s shaking as Cassy bangs around in there, so I stand in front of it.
The kitchen is full of chaos, so no one pays me any attention.
Anyway, in three, two, one...
Boom!
The explosion shakes the walls, and everyone looks up.
