Wolf

As I left Jasmines apartment, the empty street was a relief. The guy who had been lurking outside earlier was gone- lucky for him. But if he showed up again, he was going to have a problem. I was determined to protect her and make sure no one ever hurt her again. I needed to focus on finding out more about the missing girls from Eclipse, but first things first,I needed to make sure the security door was fixed.

After scanning through county records, I finally found the name and address of Jasmines sleazy landlord. With a bit more digging, I uncovered quite a bit about Mr. Jackson: he had a nice home in the suburbs, a wife and a daughter in college, and a twenty-two-year-old with a toddler.I waited until his wife left before knocking on the front door. Mr. Jackson answered, looking annoyed..

Hello, Mr. Jackson, I stared him down.

Who the hell are you? He puffed out his chest trying to look intimidating. Was he kidding? He was at least three inches shorter than me.

I detected fear underneath his bluster. This wasn’t going to take long.We need to talk, I said, pushing past him closing the door behind me.

Is this about the money? he asked, eyeing me warily. “Leo said I had until the end of the month.”

I leaned in close, my voice low and threatening. This isn’t about the money. It’s about your dirty little secrets, Richard. And if you do what I say, maybe I wont have to tell your wife.

“I don’t have any secrets.” He stammered his eyes shifting nervously.

This guy was a shit liar. I grabbed his neck and pushed him back against the wall. Im not in the mood for you to play dumb, so listen. You are going to fix the security door at 1250 King St.

Who the fuck are you?

I cocked my head to the side.Did he want me to kill him? Someone who doesn’t have a problem with your wife coming home to find you in a coma.” I tightened my grip on his neck. He struggled for air and started flailing him arms. “Now, are you going to do it?

He nodded his head so rapidly it was comical.

I released his throat. You have twenty-four hours..

I left, satisfied that the security door would be fixed by morning

The sun was setting when I pulled into the underground garage of my building.I leaned against the wall in my private elevator. The memory of Jasmine flooded my mind, her body trembling with pleasure as I teased her at the museum. I pictured her spread out in my bed, where I could savor every moment with her. The way her skin felt under my fingertips, the sound of her soft moans filling the air - all of it made me ache for her even more. I couldnt wait to have her all to myself again, to explore every inch of her and make her mine all over again. The elevator doors dinged, and I stepped into the long hallway that led to my penthouse.

I opened the door to my apartment and saw him standing looking out over the city, hands folded behind his back. There was only one person in the world who could get past my security.

Hello Fox.

Wolf. He turned to face me, leaning back against the glass and folding his arms like owned the place.

What brings you to the city? I stepped inside and closed the door.

You know why. Im here.

Im just having some fun. Not all of us get the same thrill from killing as you do. Killing satisfied something in me a need a for balance and calm but Fox wasnt like me. He didnt need to kill. Killing gave him pleasure, the same as a fine wine, a delicious meal or a good fuck. Fox was crazy, even by my standards. Depravity ran in his family. Nobody ever got a clean or quick death at his hands they usually ended up in pieces.

Distractions get you killed.

Shes not a distraction.

Then what is she?

I paused. Id known Fox for most of my life, and all of his. Subterfuge would be useless. Everything.

Foxs lip curled, and he shook his head. Feelings. He barely concealed his distaste at my answer. And people say Im insane.

Fox didnt do emotions. He did murder, torture, and the occasional bit of revenge. I take a breath, getting control of the annoyance that could turn to anger. Fox and I are friends, but if we get into a fight. Im not sure either of us would make it out alive.

Im sure you didnt come here to discuss my personal life. Fox.

Is DeLuca traffiking?

“Yes, Elliot Winters is the buyer. Fifty-three years old.Works in finance. Old money family. No criminal records but a suspicious number of payments to former female employees over the years.”

Fox’s eyes narrowed. “So nothing of value will be lost when he takes his last breath.”

“Not at all, but too many girls have gone missing too fast. Either there are more buyers or Winters is procuring girls for a larger operation. Maybe both. I’m not sure yet.”

Youre usually not this slow to gain intel. Your little distraction really is a problem, isnt she?

I clenched my fist. Jasmine has nothing to do with this. Ill find out where theyre keeping the girls and well end them and their disgusting little operation.

Then what? You cant exactly retire? You know death is the only exit from the society.

I have no plans to leave.

Wolf, were not the men women love. Were the monsters they fear.Surely you dont plan on telling her the truth?

I do in time. Jasmine was mine, and I had no intention of ever letting her go. She made me feel alive in a way in ways I never had before. I wasnt giving that up for anyone or anything.

You know if you reveal yourself, she can never leave you?

Im aware of the rules, Fox. My jaw tightens with irritation.

Then you know if you reveal yourself and she rejects you. I will kill her.

I lunged at him, grabbing his shirt and bringing us nose to nose.

Youre wrinkling my shirt. I hate that. Fox smirked and tapped the dagger I knew he always carried against my ribs.

I didnt flinch. Dont threaten her. I growled.

You really are ready to die for her.

Absolutely, and if you touch her, it will be the last thing you ever do. I released my grip and stepped back.

Fox put his dagger away and smoothed his shirt. Love is madness.

Maybe, but its the only madness worth having.

Fox rolled his eyes. Get the intel and finish the mission.

I always do. I and walked to the door, opening it. Im sure you have other business.

Fox smiled, the one that meant someone was going to die. I do have another appointment.

Fox left, and I went to work. Jasmine was mine, and I’d defy Fox and all the entire Black Heart Society to keep her.
