Chapter Thirty-Four
Blade
Icouldn’t be more fucking proud of Sera and what she’s offered her brother and my President, but right now I know I need to focus on this meeting. I’m not stupid with who Wrath has summoned for this meeting; it could only mean one thing. Sabbatini has done something.
I’m proven right when Wrath starts talking. Explaining to us the phone call he received a little while ago from Sabbatini himself. I can feel my temper rising at the thought of him and the fact that he wants my woman. He’ll have her over my cold, dead body. It’s not fucking happening.
Sera must feel me grow tense beneath her because she starts stroking my arms, which actually helps calm me some. I don’t have a clue how she did it, but I’m thankful. I need to keep my head on straight and listen. I need to know exactly what the plan is so I know how to protect my woman in the meantime. I just want all this dealt with now; she deserves to live her life without Sabbatini hanging over her head. She’s been through enough shit already. Also, if Wrath and Flame accept her offer, we definitely need Sabbatini dealt with. Pregnancy is hard enough on a woman without the added stress this situation with Sabbatini would put on Sera.
“So tomorrow morning at ten, Sabbatini is meeting us at Inferno’s.” Wrath says.
From the corner of my eye, I watch Shadow’s body go tense and his fists clench and unclench, but he doesn’t say anything. Something about Wrath’s plan is bothering him, though, and he needs to fucking speak up. I’m not taking any chances when it’s Sera at risk here.
“What’s the issue, Shadow?” I ask, drawing attention to him. I can’t keep quiet, not if he knows something that could cause an issue in the meeting that could end all my woman’s problems.
“What? Nothing.” He says, but I don’t believe a word he’s saying. From the looks of it, I’m not the only one.
“You’re lying.” Wreck says, and if anyone is going to know when Shadow isn’t being truthful, it’s definitely him. He doesn’t look even remotely impressed with his best friend right now. It’s actually got me a little worried; I’ve never seen Wreck look this way as far as Shadow is concerned.
“It’s nothing.” Shadow says. Looking like he wants the room to swallow him whole.
“Obviously it is. You’re tense as fuck and look like you’re ready for a fight. So fucking spit it out.” Wrath says, and we all know Shadow no longer has a choice but to tell us. He’s not going to go against his President’s orders. Even if the President in question is his twin brother.
“Fuck.” He mutters before straightening up and looking directly at Wrath as he speaks. “I’m just worried about the staff who’ll be working at Inferno’s during our meeting.”
There’s truth behind his words; I’ll give him that, but it’s not everything. Not many people would notice the little signs in Shadow’s body that give him away, but I’m not just fucking anybody, and I’m pretty fucking sure I know who he’s worried about, and if I’m right, he’s got some fucking explaining to do.
“No, that”s not the whole truth. It’s not all the staff you’re worried about. It’s fucking one in particular. Isn’t it?”
Shadow looks like a deer in headlights at my words, and I know I’ve hit the fucking nail on the head. I’m more than a little pissed with him, especially after how he went off at me about keeping secrets when he’s clearly been keeping a pretty big one himself.
“Who the fuck is he talking about, Shadow?” Wrath asks, his voice filled with annoyance.
Shadow just keeps swallowing hard but doesn’t speak. Fuck this; if he isn’t going to open his mouth, then I will. It’s time for everything to be brought out into the open.
“Megan. There’s something going on between him and Megan. I thought I was reading into things, but I wasn’t. His reaction right now tells me everything.”
As soon as the words leave my mouth, Shadow confirms it’s all true by looking guilty as fuck. Wreck is looking at his best friend, eyes filled with betrayal. Wrath doesn’t look much different either. I’m not sure Shadow has ever lied or hidden anything from either one of them before. Fucking hell, Shadow hates secrets more than anyone I’ve ever met, and he’s been keeping a massive one from everyone. Talk about fucked up.
“You have some fucking explaining to do, brother.” Wrath starts, sounding as betrayed as he looks. “Just for your peace of mind, all the staff will be safe and fine. So you don’t need to worry.”
Shadow should look relieved at Wrath’s words, but he doesn’t. I”m pretty sure that’s because he knows shit is going to hit the fan between himself and Wrath. Not to mention what’s going to happen between him and Wreck. Wreck isn”t going to go easy on Shadow, that much I know from the hard look in his eyes.
Shadow’s secret relationship with Megan also answers the question I’ve had about what changed over the last year in regards to her attitude at Inferno’s. She fucking thought that being in a secret relationship with Shadow made her goddamn untouchable. Well, that’s not the fucking case, and next time she decides to fucking act like she has, she’s in for a motherfucking shock. Every person in this room, barring Shadow, will make sure of that.
The conversation turns back to the meeting, and it’s decided that Sera will go to work with Wreck at Devil’s Ink, with Ink and Rock going as an added precaution. The rest of us will be attending the meeting.
As much as I want to be with Sera and make sure she’s safe when Sabbatini is in town, I know I need to be at the meeting. I’ve got to trust that my brothers will do everything to keep her safe.
