Chapter Thirty-Seven

Sera

I’m at Devil’s Ink physically, but mentally, my head is on the meeting that should be starting any minute now at Inferno’s. I just hope they manage to sort this shit with Sabbatini, and he’ll give up on wanting me.

On a more positive note, late last night, Wrath rang me to let me know he”d spoken to Flame. They decided to accept my offer, and I’m fucking honored. Flame is setting up all the appointments I’ll need. There’s the one for harvesting my eggs, and then there’s the one for them being implanted. Hopefully, it’s not an overly long process. I want the ball rolling as soon as possible so they can have the baby they want.

I’m working on my technique with my tattoo gun again, and Wreck will more than likely be in to check any minute now. He’s a great teacher, and all the advice he’s given has been fucking invaluable. I’d never have gotten this good without him. I haven’t seen much of his work yet, only the stuff that’s on display, but what I have seen shows me how fucking talented he is.

I’m good with portraits, yeah, but Wreck, he’s good with illustrations. He’s done a massive dragon on someone from one of the pictures in reception, and it looks so fucking life-like it’s actually scary. I wish I had that sort of talent. He seems to think I do with my portraits, but I don’t see it.

Wreck walks into my workspace carrying two cups. I’m guessing they both contain coffee.

“Thanks.” I say as he passes me one.

“No problem. How are you doing?” He asks as he sits down.

“I’m okay. Thinking about the meeting.”

“Me too, but they’ll be fine. Trust me.”

“I hope so. I just want it done and them all back in one piece.”

“I get that. They’ll let us know when it’s over.”

“How are you today anyway? You sort things out with my idiot brother?”

I know it may be a little nosy to ask, but I need to know. The look on Wreck’s face yesterday in that meeting when Shadow’s secret girlfriend was exposed almost broke my heart. He looked so fucking betrayed.

“We’ll get there. He spent last night hanging out with me, which is more than he’s really done since I’ve been back. So it’s a start.”

“I don’t get it. I’d never want to hide my relationship with Blade. I don’t understand why she wanted to hide theirs.”

“Fuck if I know, but I don’t like it. He shouldn’t be someone’s secret. Your brother is the best man I know. He should be fucking cherished by whoever he’s with.”

“Hopefully everything will be okay now that it’s out in the open.”

“I hope so.”

He doesn”t sound convinced, though, and the sadness in his eyes isn”t as hidden as well as he may think.

“How long have you been in love with him?” I ask quietly.

Wreck looks up at me, eyes wide in shock, shaking his head. “It”s not like that.”

I”m not convinced. He may not realize it, but it”s clear to me that he doesn”t just love my brother; he”s in love with him. If I”m being honest, from all the interactions I”ve seen between them, I”d say Shadow is just as much in love with Wreck. They”re just both totally clueless to their feelings.

We lapse into silence. Wreck sits and watches me as I work. Normally I hate being watched as I do anything artistic, but I don’t mind when it’s Wreck. I know he appreciates everything I do and will only ever make comments that can help me do better.
