Susanna

I close the guest room door behind me and lean against it, my whole body shaking.

I let him stay. I'm giving him another chance.

Am I insane?

I pull out my phone and text Hillary.

Me: I'm home. Teller is here. We talked.

Hillary: And?

Me: I'm giving him a chance to prove he can change.

Hillary: Are you sure that's a good idea?

Me: No. But I'm not ready to give up yet.

Hillary: Okay. But if he fucks up again, you're done. Right?

Me: Right.

Hillary: I'm here if you need me. Day or night.

Me: I know. Thank you.

I set my phone down and lie on the bed, staring at the ceiling.

What am I doing?

I should leave him. I should pack my bags and file for divorce and move on with my life.

But I can't. Not yet.

Because despite everything, I still love him.

And I need to know if he can actually change. If we can actually fix this.

Or if I'm just delaying the inevitable.
