Chapter 40
Alex needed to call his client and arrange a time and place to meet. He would share the photos of Torrie’s demise and get the details for the next and final hit. That one, according to his client, was the most important kill of all.
He was excited to find out more. He wanted to do his best for his client, considering how well he’d been paid after each hit.
Plus, the client had never gotten angry about Alex’s face showing up on the news.
His true identity was well-hidden, and law enforcement never found out his real name or where he really lived—pretty much right under their noses.
The fact that he’d just changed his looks, too, would definitely please his client.
Alex made the call, and the meeting time and place were arranged. They would meet along the lakefront behind the Milwaukee Art Museum Sunday at two o’clock.
With most of Saturday still ahead, Alex decided to go for a leisurely walk.
Finding somewhere off the beaten path meant he would have to drive there, but the Jeep rental included unlimited miles anyway.
Since he’d rented the Jeep until next Thursday, he had no reason to return it early.
He would find out from his client when the next hit needed to take place.
Having the Jeep already would make transporting the body a whole lot easier.
All he needed were the instructions for tracking down the target and when to do it, then he would take it from there.
Hmm… That gives me an idea. As long as I want to take a leisurely walk away from other people, I’ll go to the Kettle Moraine State Forest. I’ll find the perfect spot there for the next person on the hit list. Body number four can spend eternity in the woods with the worms instead of Lake Michigan with the fish.
Alex took the elevator down to the garage and climbed into the Jeep. He planned to head north into Washington County and spend the next few hours in the wooded seclusion of the state park. There, he would decide on the final resting place for unlucky person number four.
