Keeping Promises #4
“And you can suck my fuckin’ dick.” I yanked my arm from his grip at the same time Dennis arrived by my side, having already grabbed my fallen blade and chain. He ushered me away while Melissa glared from her spot on the ground.
“Next time—”
“The same fucking thing is gonna happen, you delusional piece of shit.” I twisted in Dennis’ arms as I was dragged past. “You think it’s gonna be better for you next time?
Next time I’m gonna actually kill you. Next time I’ll slit your fucking throat and watch the life drain from your eyes.
Next time I’m gonna tear your motherfuckin’ corpse to pieces and burn that shit ‘til you’re a pile of ash and nobody even knows what the fuck you were—”
“I’m not scared of you,” Melissa started, then flinched when I broke free from Dennis and came back.
“Oh, yeah?” I crouched down to her pathetic level.
“If you ever, ever touch him again you don’t even know what the fuck I’ll do to you.
I’ll bury you with every goddamn thing you’ve ever loved—” I cut off as Dennis and Sean both pulled me up and started dragging me away with some effort; I was trying to keep going while Melissa was backing up scared.
Dennis turned me around and took hold of my cheeks.
“Calm down,” he said, looking into my eyes. “She’s already half dead. Look at her.”
I glanced back to see Melissa hunched over and coughing, her friends finally by her side.
“You’re gonna need some blood,” the girl was saying. “You lost a lot.”
“I know! I fucking know!” Melissa screamed. I laughed and she turned her glare on me. “I hate you,” she seethed.
I flipped her off before Dennis took my hand and led me away. He and Sean stayed on either side of me, probably to keep me from going back to kill her, while Ari and Mateo trailed behind. I smoothed my skirt and put my earrings back on, then took my hair down and ruffled it out.
“I’m gonna be completely honest,” Nate started as he and Michael moved out of our way, “I didn’t know you had that in you.”
I didn’t respond. I was still livid. I hadn’t gone as far as I wanted, and my fingers were itching to go back and finish things. We were halfway through the parking lot when I calmed down enough to look at Dennis. “When did you guys get here?”
“Same time as you,” he said.
“I knew you were tough Emy, but shit. I guess we underestimated you, huh? As did Melissa.” Mateo grinned as Sean laughed.
“I warned her. Not my fault she didn’t wanna believe me.” I glanced at Ari, who was silently watching me. She’d never liked the times I truly lost my temper. “Sorry.”
“It’s okay.” She sighed lightly. “I should’ve known you’d lose your shit instead of cheering him up. Were you really gonna kill her?”
“Yeah, if I could figure out how. I still don’t know how to kill a vampire, but I figure slitting her throat is a good place to start.” I got my keys out as we reached Tuffy 2.0.
“Are you gonna try to run her over when we leave?” Ari asked. I hesitated. I hadn’t thought of that, but now that she mentioned it…
“Gimme the keys.” Mateo held out a hand and I reluctantly dropped them in. “I’ll be careful.” He smiled before getting on my new baby.
I watched forlornly as he drove away. So much for that idea. Now I was stuck riding with them with no chance to go back.
“Our car’s over here.” Sean pointed a few spaces down. He got in the passenger seat while Ari and I climbed in back. He turned to grin at me as Dennis started driving. “I can’t believe you told that guy to suck your dick.”
“She does that all the time,” Ari said. “It’s like her favorite insult.”
“It is a fun one,” I agreed. “I save it for special occasions.” I barely smiled as Dennis laughed.
“I was wrong, Vixen. You’re not fragile at all.”
My mood lightened a bit at his words. The others talked throughout the car ride, but I was too busy daydreaming about a nice warm shower. Melissa’s blood was all over me, along with dirt on my legs from kneeling to strangle her.
“Can I shower at your place?” I asked as we parked out front.
“Nope,” Ari said before Dennis could answer, climbing out beside me. “We gotta go home. Aunt Helen comes tomorrow. We need to deep clean.”
“Ugh, really? I hate cleaning.” I pouted as Mateo joined us and returned my keys. Tuffy 2.0 was parked further up the block, nice and shiny as ever. “Thanks.”
“Welcome.”
“We’re leaving. Bye, guys.” Ari pushed me toward my bike while Sean and Mateo said their goodbyes.
I managed to wave at Dennis before she gave another shove.
“You better not run away. Don’t sneak off to the bar or something, ‘cause I’ll come find you.
” She got in her car while I made a face and continued toward mine.
“Vixen,” Dennis called. I waited for him to catch up. “Thank you. I was gonna wait it out, but you’re right. This was more efficient.”
“That’s what binds are for, right?” I giggled as he smiled. “I’ll see you later. I have to clean, apparently.” I made a ‘blegh’ sound before sitting atop new Tuffy and leaving for home.
The wind felt amazing whipping through my hair, but my disgusted sound came back at a terrible realization: as excited as I was for Aunt Helen, I was also sad to leave Dennis behind.
