32. Hadley

Chapter thirty-two

Hadley

I roll my hips, feeling the swoosh in the bottom of my stomach that tells me another orgasm is building.

How is it that every time with Wes gets better and better? How is he real? How is this my life?

I stare down at the man below me, who looks as though he’s about to lose his mind. Watching him touch me in the mirror. Holy shit, that was hot with a capital H. Wonder if he’d fuck me in front of it. And now I’m even more turned on.

I lift up until just the tip of his cock is inside me before slamming back down and taking all of him. I repeat the process a few times, eliciting moans from both of us. He grips my hips but doesn’t try to take over, letting me control the pace.

“I’m so close. I need you to come again. Touch yourself.”

Happy to oblige, I reach down and strum my clit with one hand while pinching my nipple with the other. He holds me steady, helping me bounce on top of him.

“Yes, like that,” I tell him as the orgasm builds.

“Come on my cock, tornado. I want to feel you squeezing me before I fill you up.”

“Yes. Yes. Yes,” I chant as my orgasm plows into me.

He ruts up into me a few times; how he even has the core strength to do that is beyond me, and then he’s coming with a roar. My eyes roll to the back of my head, and I swear his orgasm triggers another one for me, or maybe it’s a continuation of the one before.

I fall forward onto his chest, and he cradles me against him, running a hand over my back. We lie like that for who knows how long before he pulls out of me, and I whine at the empty feeling.

“Do you need another round, tornado?”

“Maybe,” I mutter.

He hums, stroking my pussy gently, his fingers tracing through the mess we made.

“Are you pushing your cum back inside of me?”

“Yes.”

I can’t help the grin that breaks out on my face. “Didn’t know you had a breeding kink.”

His gaze darkens as his focus bounces between my face and his cum leaking out of my pussy. He visibly swallows. “I didn’t know I did either.”

I pat the bed next to me. “Lie down with me.”

He gathers me into his arms so my head is resting on his chest. We lie in silence for a few minutes. My eyes drift closed.

I could get used to this.

Scenes of future us dance into my head. Him coming home after a road trip and us falling into bed. Falling asleep in his bed, now our bed, when he’s on the road. Going on trips together. Getting married. Him retiring. Traveling. Growing old together.

I blink my eyes open, pushing to sit up, my heart racing. I scrub a hand down my face and start to climb out of bed.

“Where are you going?” he asks.

“I’m gonna get cleaned up.”

“Let me do it. You stay there. I’ll get a washcloth.” He hops to his feet.

I try to push down the panic telling me that things can’t, won’t, work out between Wes and me. Relationships never work out for me. This one is no different. He’ll soon realize that I’m not who he really wants, and we’ll break up.

“You alright, tornado?”

I blink out of my thoughts. How long has he been standing there? Pull your shit together, Hadley. “Sorry, just tired.”

He smirks, climbing onto the bed and cleaning me up, despite my protests that I can do it myself, before I get up to use the bathroom.

“What do you want to do for the rest of the night?” he asks when I’m lying down next to him again.

“Watch a movie.” I stifle a yawn.

He pulls me close to him as he turns on the television that’s mounted on the opposite wall.

He kisses the top of my head, and I melt into him.

Shit, this is going to hurt when it all ends.

I push that thought out of my head and force myself to focus on the movie he chose, another early two-thousands rom-com.

“Hey, you,” Callie answers the phone on the first ring the next afternoon.

I’m snuggled up on the couch while Wes is at the arena working out with a few of his teammates.

“Hey.”

“What’s wrong?”

I huff out a breath. “I went and fell for my fake fiancé. My brother’s best friend. Now I’m fucked. Literally and figuratively.”

“And why is that a bad thing?”

“Because,” I whine, “you know my track record. It’s only a matter of time before he ends it. This time, it isn’t like all the other times. I don’t know if my heart will survive.”

“Oh, Hadley,” Callie says softly. “Have you ever thought that maybe this feels different because it is different?”

“I don’t know if that’s possible.” I pick at the edge of the blanket.

“Why are you so jaded? Wait, no, don’t answer that. I know the answer. Better question is, why don’t you just enjoy the relationship? See what happens, where things go.”

I turn her words over in my head, trying to figure out how to explain what I feel. I finally settle on saying, “I don’t think I’m good enough for him. He can do so much better than me.”

“Hadley,” she chastises.

“No, seriously. He’s a professional hockey player. And I’m a nobody, an unemployed aspiring photographer.”

I bark out a laugh at the ridiculousness of us as a couple. What the hell am I thinking? He deserves so much better than me. How could I be so delusional to think we could be anything but fake? I pull the blanket over my head.

“Hadley Jane Abbott,” she snaps.

“What?”

“You’re being ridiculous. Do you hear yourself? Did you forget that your brother is a professional hockey player? What about the women married to the other players who you hang out with? Aren’t they as normal as you are?”

“They all have jobs.”

“Hadley. I love you, remember that.” She pauses, and I brace myself for what she’s going to say. “I think you’re trying to find reasons this can’t work out. Why?”

“I don’t know,” I say slowly. “It feels too good to be true. I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. For him to realize he doesn’t like me as I am. Or that me being a photographer isn’t enough. Like all the rest of them.” The last part comes out in a whisper, and I blink back tears.

“I’m sorry you feel that way. I just don’t want you to ruin a good thing because you think it’s going to end.”

“I know. I know. You’re right,” I say, although I’m not sure that I’m entirely convinced. “Thanks, Cal. I’m scared.”

“I know. I get that. But he sounds like a great guy, unlike all the others you’ve dated. I think you should see what happens.”

“Okay,” I whisper after a few seconds of silence.

There’s noise in the background, and then she says, “I’m so sorry, but I’ve got to go deal with an issue.” She huffs out a sigh.

“I understand. Thanks for talking.”

“Of course. Love you, babe.”

“Love you too.”

I hang up the phone and lie on the couch, staring at the ceiling and thinking about what Callie said to me. She does know me better than anyone else, and she has a point.

I still can’t help wondering if maybe Wes is settling by being with me. But I’ll do my best to enjoy things between us, and I’ll deal with whatever the future holds as best I can when it comes to pass.
