Chapter 23
Kaylee
My spine tingled with fear as I sat in the chair under the lights.
I hadn’t been on camera in months, but Bianca had a video go viral and now she was considered a social media influencer.
This video was celebrating her success, so I’d allowed her to do my makeup on camera.
She was in the middle of telling her followers that I was a video editor if they needed one.
I blushed and tried to stay still as she pressed some shiny shadow onto my lids.
There was still a healthy dose of fear in me when it came to online streaming. I’d already had a talk with Bri and Bee about her safety, and their father was working on a security system for Bee’s new apartment and had been taking her to the shooting range.
Her success was well-deserved, but I couldn’t let something happen to her the way it had me. She wasn’t in as much of a risqué genre, but still, fame was fame, and it was all dangerous.
By the time I got home from filming, my nerves had me totally exhausted. Porter was working late. My grandfather had quickly begun to lean on him, taking up more and more of his time. I was going to have to have a talk with Gramps. He needed to give me my mate back.
I hated ending up in bed alone, but at least tonight I was so tired, I went right to sleep. I didn’t stay that way long.
Porter woke me with kisses up and down my jaw. “Hey, gorgeous,” he whispered. “Need some company?”
I moaned and rolled over in bed. The pull in my chest was stronger than ever, so I could only imagine how he was feeling about it.
“How’d the party go?” he asked.
“Exhausting and nerve-wracking, but a success. I’m so happy for Bee.”
He grunted and buried his face in my neck. “Me too.”
Chuckling, I drifted my fingers into his hairline. “I’m sure you are.”
Moving my hands lower, I gripped his cheeks and pulled him up to face me. “Porter,” I whispered. “It’s time.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Time?”
I giggled. “Time. Bite me.”
Porter’s breathing quickened and the laughter in his eyes was replaced with fire and desire. “Are you sure?”
“I’m sure. Porter, I want to be yours completely.”
Moaning, he fell on me, pulling down the blankets and pulling up my sleep shirt. I hadn’t even realized he wore only his boxer briefs until his body pressed against mine, mostly skin to skin.
His teeth grazed my neck. “Do it,” I whispered.
With another growl, he pulled away from me long enough to shimmy out of his undies. I took the opportunity to fully pull my sleep shirt off. I hadn’t gone to bed in undies, so I didn’t have to take the time to remove them.
I spread my legs and sighed in contentment when Porter settled between them, his lips finding my neck again. “Porter, now,” I urged. “I want you.” The connection between us was stronger than ever.
He opened his mouth and his breath danced on my skin before he bit. Moaning, I arched my back as Porter slid inside me, pumping slowly as the connection between us built up an orgasm like I’d never felt before.
Everything went too fast, but it was far from unsatisfying. An orgasm built and crashed, built and crashed, over and over as Porter held onto my neck and pumped himself into me, the stretch delicious, the connection more than I ever could’ve imagined.
He let go of my neck and rose up, looking down at me as he thrust harder and faster. Moans slipped past my mouth without me being able to stop them, punctuated by the slap of our skin meeting as our bodies worshipped one another.
“Porter!” I cried as I came one more time, my inner walls clenching and milking Porter’s orgasm.
“I love you,” he whispered as he came, then dropped close to pull me into his arms.
“I love you, too.” Running my fingers lightly along his back, I enjoyed the feel of his weight on me as he came down from his orgasm high.
Porter slid off of me and I started to burrow myself into him like I loved to do, but then I got a little dizzy. “Whew,” I said. “Get off.”
He furrowed his brow and sat up. “What’s wrong?”
Letting him pull me upright, I shook my head. “I don’t know. I’m dizzy and hot all of a sudden.”
He sucked in a deep breath. “I feel amazing. I can’t believe how good this feels.”
Skye and Bri had told me that women sometimes took on a bit of magic, had extended health, and just a bit more senses, but this was different.
“It’s like I can feel traces of life,” I said in a hushed voice.
Looking around the room, I zeroed in on a plant in the window.
“Oh, my god,” I hissed. “I can see the life coursing through the plant. It’s…
” I closed my eyes and listened. “I think it’s whispering to me, but I can’t make out what it’s saying. ”
“Are you okay?” he asked, arms out like he was about to jump up and save me from the unknown magic.
“I think your magic woke mine,” I said. “This time I’m not wearing the necklace.”
Swaying slightly, I let the sound of the plant in the window comfort me. “Vlad said my people were earth pixies. It makes sense. It’s subtle. I think I can tune it out, but I don’t want to.”
Continuing to be in tune with the magic inside me, which wasn’t overwhelming this time, and didn’t make me feel like I was high as a kite, I followed another whispering thread until I gasped.
“What?” Porter asked in a scared voice. Poor fella, he didn’t know what to do. I opened my eyes and stared at him.
“I can feel a line, a lifeline. It flows from you and wraps around me, which I would think is our mating bond, but then a tiny shimmer goes from that one, the blend, and goes down.”
He nodded. “Okay?”
“It goes down into my stomach, to my… womb.” I stared at my stomach as Porter breathed harder.
“Are you sure? Are you okay?”
“I’m not sure. I don’t even know what to say.”
I met his gaze and giggled. His lips spread into a big smile as tears filled his eyes. “You’re pregnant.”
Giggling, I threw my arms around his neck. “I’m pregnant, I think.”
“How can we find out?” he asked. “What can we do to confirm it? Is there a spell, or should we call Sammy?”
I laughed out loud and grabbed Porter’s underwear. “We find out the same way everyone else finds out!” Throwing them at his head, I yelled. “Go get us a pregnancy test!”
We both laughed through him getting dressed. “I’m going to get five,” he said. “So we’ll be sure.”
As soon as he ran down the stairs, a jingling bell drew my attention. Luckily, I’d put my sleep shirt back on while he’d dressed, so Sammy didn’t get a free show. I burst out laughing again when I spotted the bells hanging on a pretty silver chain around her neck.
“Jace forced them on me,” she grumbled and shook them.
“You know?” I asked.
“Of course I know. How are you feeling?”
“Amazing. I can see life, especially in that plant. I can see it in you, as well, but it’s muted. The plant’s colors are vibrant and pulsing.”
“I see it too,” she said. “I see it in all things. It’s a heady sight.” She held out a bracelet. “Put this on.”
I held out my wrist, trusting the clan witch completely. “What is it?”
“I suspected this day would come sooner than later. The dragon magic will intensify your earth magic and the trees are some loud sons o’ bitches.
The bracelet will help calm them, quieten them.
There aren’t any earth pixies around to teach you the limits of your magic, but I know enough to help you. ”
I looked at the pretty braided leather. “Thank you, Sammy. What would we do without you?”
She rolled her eyes. “I’m a damn sellout. Damn pixies.”
Giggling, I looked at the bracelet again, but when I looked up to thank her again, she was gone.
Later on that night, Porter and I sat on the bed and stared down at five tests that we hadn’t needed after getting Sammy’s confirmation, but I’d taken them anyway.
Each one was positive.
