On the first morning of the Grand Exam at the Academie of the Grand Duchy of Sieuxerr, a randomly assigned group of healer-mages finds a classmate's corpse in the exam hall.

Officially they have five days, five practical cases, and one shared verdict: they pass together or they fail together.

Unofficially, each of them is tied to the dead girl, a brilliant scholar who should have ranked first in their class, and each of them is hiding something.
