Chapter 31
Riley
“I cannot wear this in public!” I say to Corrine, throwing the teeny excuse for a dress at her over her laptop. She’s glued to her computer much of the time she’s home, working or chatting up her work contacts. That’s how she had been invited to tonight’s club opening.
“It’s kind of an elite exotic club,” she’d said the night before, “and you have no choice but to attend with me.”
I had come home from a long day of work, feeling disappointed and mad at the same time. I hadn’t talked to Nate since the fight at the house last weekend, and I so badly wanted to talk to Sebastian and figure out what the hell Nate and his bosses were up to. But I wasn’t up for the explanation that came with the discussion. That I had gone to the house to end things but chickened out when I saw the check. Or that I was ready to completely remove Nate from my life, but really, truly hoped Sebastian held just a sliver of interest in me still.
In that moment I had thought yes, a night out is exactly what I need! But now that I’m looking at the red dress and stilettos that Corrine’s picked out for me, I’m questioning why I said yes.
“So does this club cater to still married women who are horny AF for their boss and slightly terrified of their potentially mafia-connected husband?” I deadpan, looking up at her expectantly.
“Yes! That’s their claim to fame!” Corrine smiles and hands me my martini glass. “Drink up bitch!” she says and gulps down her drink.
