12. Meredith

MEREDITH

A biker kidnapped me.

And I begged him to fuck me.

Begged.

And he didn’t.

What the hell is wrong with me? I meant what I said. I’m not going to call the cops, but that doesn’t mean I’m not questioning my own sanity right now.

I have lost my mind.

I am a hot-biker drunk.

It must be a thing because only now that he’s not around me, can I think clearly.

Muttering to myself about how I must have severely neglected my sexual needs for too long, I’m cleaning out some of the kennels at the shelter when Pyro steps inside.

“You’re back.” He smirks, Bruno walking in behind him without a lead.

“I am. Are you going to adopt him?”

He glances down at the dog. “I’ve already got three dogs.” He tilts his head to the side. “But honestly, I am considering it. He’s a good boy.”

“He is.” I smile, putting the mop down and pushing my hair off my face with the back of my palm. “Thanks for driving all the way to the cabin to check on me.”

His blue eyes assess me before he nods. “No problem. It was out of character for Bones to suddenly vanish. I know he had a few people worried.”

“His brother?”

“Yeah, and everyone else. The club brothers and the old ladies were all concerned.”

“Old ladies?”

“Yeah, that’s what we call the taken women,” he explains, putting Bruno back inside his now-clean kennel and locking the door.

“Oh.”

I need to read more motorcycle club romance so I can stay up-to-date on all the lingo.

“Do you need any help?” he asks, glancing around.

“No, this is my last one, but thank you. I’m going to head home after this.”

“I’ll wait for you and walk you out,” he offers.

“Okay.”

We walk side by side to my car, and when I unlock it, he opens the door. “So are you and Bones together now?”

“No. I mean, he’s taking me out for a date on Friday, but we aren’t officially together or anything,” I explain in a rush. “I told Nate I wanted a little time to think about everything.”

“Nate?” he asks, his brow furrowing.

“Yeah, that’s his name.”

“And Bones told you to call him that?” he asks, sounding surprised.

“Yeah, that’s what he told me his name was.” He must have missed that at the cabin.

“Fuck,” he mutters under his breath, disappointment flickering in his eyes. He closes my door for me and takes a step back. “Get home safe. I’ll see you tomorrow?”

“Yeah, I’ll be here after work.” I flash him a smile and a wave, and then drive home.

It’s never bothered me before, living alone, and not really having any close family or best friends that live nearby.

Until now.

Nate’s number in my phone burns through my pocket.

But I don’t message him.

I’ve never relied on anyone before, and I sure as hell am not going to get used to that now.

I just met him.

He kidnapped me.

But he made me feel alive.

He made me laugh.

My body has never known such pleasure, and I haven’t even gone all the way with him.

Okay, I need to stop thinking about him.

I’m showered and lying in bed reading a damn biker romance when I hear the rumble of a motorcycle in the distance.

Ah, fuck it.

Pulling out my phone, I send a quick text.

Meredith

Hope you’re not out kidnapping any other women?

He replies almost instantly.

Bones

Never, baby. That was only for you.

Bones

What are you doing?

Meredith

Reading in bed. You?

Bones

Hanging out at the clubhouse. The old ladies cooked dinner for everyone.

I picture him sitting there, surrounded by beautiful women, and there’s a tightening in the pit of my stomach.

Does their club have club whores? Well, that’s what the book I’m reading refers to them as—women who hang around the club and try to sleep with the members.

Nate did hint that women come after him for his patch. Is that what he meant?

When I don’t reply, he messages again.

Bones

They are my brothers’ women. You’ll love them.

Did he guess what I was thinking? I might love them as long as he hasn’t slept with them.

It hits me that Nate has a whole clubhouse of people behind him—a whole extended family.

And the only person I could think to introduce him to is my friend, Katya, who moved to the other side of the country.

I mean, my mom and dad could meet him when I see them, which is only at holidays, and sometimes not even then.

They have biological grandchildren now, and they are busy with them.

Meredith

What if they don’t love me?

Bones

They will. Trust me. You miss me yet?

Meredith

I saw you several hours ago.

Bones

I know. I didn’t think you’d message yet. I thought you’d play hard to get.

I wince at how I was acting over the weekend.

Definitely not hard to get.

Meredith

That’s more your game than mine.

Bones

I want you so bad, Doc. But we aren’t in a rush.

Meredith

I haven’t had sex in a year.

Bones

Fuck…

Meredith

Yeah. That’s what I wanted.

Unlike him, I’m sure he’s been getting it on the regular.

Bones

Baby. Want me to come over now?

Meredith

No, you had your chance.

Bones

Come on now, don’t be like that. I was trying to do the right thing for once. I’m pissed that Pyro got to see you.

Meredith

He told you that?

Bones

Yeah, fucker rubbed it in my face. But he doesn’t know how sweet your pussy tastes, so I can’t be too angry.

Meredith

He’s sweet.

Bones

Now I’m jealous again. Friday needs to hurry up.

Why did I make him wait until Friday? Oh, right, because I’m insane for wanting something with him.

I guess I need to decide…

Take a wild ride with Nate or close off this chapter and leave him behind.

Can we build something together after a kidnapping? Why am I even thinking like that? I should just fuck him and get it out of my system. He’d never physically hurt me, and Pyro would never let anything happen to me, right? I’m sure that’s what every dark romance heroine thought.

Bones

Call me before you go to bed. I want to hear your voice.

Shit.
