NOVA
A low-grade panic clung to me all day. Why else would I feel so out of sorts about a trip to the pumpkin patch?
The girls were confused about carving jack-o'-lanterns. I didn’t even think to show them a video.
I was more focused on Dan’s mood and how much I wanted to be alone with Boone.
I also found myself worrying about the nearby couple judging me. Everything felt too loud and cold.
The foxes’ arrival instantly distracted me. They owned their space. I doubted they even took notice of the nearby couple, let alone gave a crap what they thought.
“Is my brother treating you right?” Goldie asked me while winking at Boone. “He hasn’t become overbearing, has he?”
I nearly responded to her question as if it were genuine. Fortunately, Lyric distracted us before I could defend Boone.
“You take its brain out,” Lyric explained to the foxes.
“Pumpkins don’t have brains,” Vanessa replied and started looking over the pumpkins on the ground. “This is a good one. Nice and round. That’s perfect for a big face.”
“What kind of face?” Skylar asked and started following Vanessa.
“A big smiling face. Want to help me?”
The girls instantly followed her while the Tooker sisters picked more pumpkins. Goldie glanced between her brother and the foxes.
Goldie told Boone and me, “Why don’t you two fondle each other while we keep the girls busy?”
Instantly worried, I mumbled, “I shouldn’t leave them.”
“You aren’t leaving. You’re just not clinging to them,” Goldie said, walking away. “Cling to Boone for a little bit.”
Boone sighed dramatically. “She’s so bossy, but what can I do? Now, let’s go over to the car and enjoy a few kisses while the girls are focused on something else.”
“But they’re scared.”
Taking my hand, Boone smiled at me. “No, they’re just confused. Let the foxes educate them, while I teach you how to make out at a pumpkin patch.”
“Is making out here any different than making out anywhere else?”
“I’m not sure. We should test it,” Boone said and walked around to the side of the SUV facing away from the carving station.
Boone’s hands cradled my face before his lips covered mine. We wrapped ourselves together for what felt like way too long. I finally tugged free and leaned around the SUV to make sure Skylar and Lyric weren’t looking for me.
“I was serious about fooling around in the SUV after the girls go to bed,” Boone said as his fingers stroked my back.
“How would that even work?”
Boone cocked a brow. “You don’t understand the logistics?”
“Basically.”
“Once the girls are in bed, you can slip into something more efficient,” Boone said and stroked my thigh. “A skirt with no panties would be ideal.”
My pussy clenched greedily at the thought of him inside me. “But can we just get in the back seat? What if people see us? Should we go somewhere?”
“There are roads in Sleepy Eye with no houses, and it’ll be dark by the time we’re alone together,” Boone said, stressing those last two words and making me breathe faster. “People in the neighborhood know your SUV. No one will bother us.”
“What if Dan gets upset?”
“He’s your brother, not your dad. Tell him to fuck off.”
My mouth popped open. “I don’t talk to him like that. Would you say that to Goldie?”
“If she was cockblocking me during time with you, then, hell, yeah. She ought to want me to be happy.”
“Dan wants me to be happy.”
Boone smirked. “You don’t have to defend him, Nova. He’s a grown man.”
“Why don’t you like him?”
Boone studied me while considering his answer. “The girls are willing to share you, but I don’t think he is.”
“He just wants to protect me.”
“So do I, but I can’t put you in a box. I expect the same from him.”
“If you could put me in a box, would you?”
Boone’s face lit up instantly, and he leaned down to lift me onto his hips. I gasped and worried I’d hurt him. Boone, though, held me like I was as light as one of the girls.
“I want to lock you away in my condo and keep you all to myself. But that wouldn’t be fair to all the people who also love you.”
His words were a shock to my system. Before I could second-guess them, Boone kissed me. I wrapped my arms around his wide shoulders and held on for dear life. Right now, with my sole focus on his affections, I felt like nothing in the world could touch me.
