Chapter 39

WESTON

S eeing Becky clamber out of my window, or technically Gray’s window, was a moment I never expected. But when it happened, my heart burst with a joy I never thought possible. She looked just as adorable as ever, her hair all tousled and her clothes a bit rumpled. When she straightened herself out and turned to face me, my heart skipped a beat. I couldn’t believe she was here, with me. It took a minute for my mind to catch up. I’d intended to drive to the airport to fetch her, but God had other plans for me, it seemed.

“This is not what it looks like,” she said, her voice sounding a little shaky.

“I hope it is,” I said, unable to keep the grin off my face .

“Are you laughing at me?” she asked, looking at me with those big, beautiful eyes.

“Nope, I’m waiting for you to tell me why you were trespassing again.” I said, trying to sound stern but failing.

“I wasn’t trespassing, I swear. Nature called while I was waiting to speak to you, and... never mind,” she said, letting out a little laugh once she saw my smile. Seconds passed and Becky’s face turned contemplative. “I missed you,” she said, her voice low and serious.

“Snap,” I replied, my voice thick with emotion.

But she still seemed uncertain, her body language guarded. “Then why are you standing so far away?” she asked, a tremor in her voice.

I took a step closer, bridging the distance between us. “Is this better?” I asked, my eyes locked on hers.

She shook her head, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush. “Nope,” she said.

I couldn’t resist a smile as I took another step forward until we were a mere foot apart. “How about this?” I asked, holding her gaze steadily.

“Still no good,” she murmured, her eyes darting away shyly .

My heart leaped in my chest at the thought of touching Becky. Without another word, I laced my fingers into her hair and cradled her head as she looked up at me.

“Is this any better?” I asked, my voice low and husky as I gazed into her eyes.

But she shook her head again, her eyes pleading with me for something more. Without hesitation, I claimed her lips with my own, pouring every ounce of love I had for her into that one searing kiss.

Suddenly, I was back in the sunlight.
