6. Declan
Brogan carried Enslee down the hallway to one of the three guest bedrooms in this house. As he did, I picked up my cell phone and instead of leaving a text trail, I hit a number on my speed dial. Three rings were all it took before my investigator answered.
“It’s been a while since you last called me. What do you need, Fitzgerald?”
I grinned, even though there was nothing humorous about this situation. “Why do you automatically assume that I need something?”
The man laughed. “If it walks like a duck… quacks like a duck… and—”
“Okay, I do need information on someone.”
“If it’s the blonde chick from last time, I’ve already given you everything that I have.”
“It’s not her, but it does involve another woman.”
“For fuck’s sake, Fitzgerald. How many women are you and your friend making disappear?”
“None. We’re not responsible for Layla and this girl hasn’t disappeared. She’s with us, but I’d like some additional information on her.”
I heard his sigh and knew he was going to help before he even spoke. “Just send me her information, and I’ll get back to you tomorrow afternoon.”
“Actually, I kinda need it tonight, and as soon as possible this evening.”
“Goddamn. It’s nearly ten o’clock. You’re not leaving me much time.”
“I’ll pay extra,” I quickly added.
“This is gonna cost you. What’s her name?”
“Enslee… umm…” my voice trailed off as I tried to remember her last name. Remembering Brogan’s panic in the hallway, it finally came to me. “B-Burn.”
“Can you spell that?”
“Yeah, sure. Hold on,” I told him. I debated whether to ask Brogan, but he was with Enslee right now. It was then that I remembered her purse, so escaping to the garage, I found it on the floorboard of my Range Rover.
“Are you still there?” he asked me.
“Yes, just give me a sec.” I opened the purse and located her wallet.
The driver’s license was indeed an Alabama one, and I looked down at her name.
“Name is E-n-s-l-e-e B-y-r-n-e,” then I rattled off her address, license number, and date of birth.
When I also noticed a small blue card, I provided her Social Security number as well.
This was a complete invasion of privacy, but we needed to know what we were up against because she would wake up soon. Once she did, we needed to be prepared.
“I’ll start working on this right away. Just know it’ll cost you an extra zero.”
“That’s fine. Just pull up everything you can find and get back to me right away.”
The call dropped, and I decided to grab all her things, including her cell phone. She did not have any kind of authentication locks on her phone, but she did have a password that I did not know. I ended up powering off her cell phone completely before tossing it into her purse with everything else.
When I got inside, I heard Brogan in the room with her.
I headed down the hallway, then paused in the doorway as I watched him gently remove her hoodie.
Deciding to help, I moved over to them. He looked up at me, and those dark eyes of his that often tore my soul from my body were hollow and even a bit red compared to their usual black hue.
“Everything’s going to be okay.”
“I suppose so. We should get her out of these dirty clothes. Do you have anything for her here?”
I chuckled. “Does it look like I bring women here, or anywhere really?”
“I guess a shirt or something would work.”
“I’ll be right back.” I left and went down the hallway to our room and quickly located one of our college T-shirts. I had no idea if this was his or mine because we both had the exact same frame and build and wore the same size. Clutching the dark material, I returned to him.
She was now clothed in nothing but her pants and a tight white tank that clung to her medium-sized breasts.
I’d seen larger in my time, and certainly smaller too.
We were not here to ogle her, though, so I helped him pull her jeans down her legs.
After, she was then clad in nothing more than a tank, black silk panties, and some sort of character socks.
Hello Kitty, if I had to guess at the white cat with the red bow.
“I’ll hold her up while you pull the tank off, then we can put her in this,” I said as I dangled the T-shirt in front of him.
Brogan was extremely gentle with her, which I knew went against his very nature. My lover was a goddamn beast and I loved it. He was allergic to tenderness, and I supposed, in a way, that I had to be as well because even the thought of him bending me to his will had my dick hardening.
Brogan finished removing the tank and slipped the T-shirt over her before turning his gaze to meet mine. As soon as it did, he glanced down at me, then arched his brow.
“The most ironic thing is that there’s a naked woman in our bed, but my cock is still only hard for you, baby.”
“Declan,” Brogan groaned, but before he could do more, the chiming of the keypad from the gate reached my ears. “Is that the doctor?”
“It has to be. I’ll go get him.”
Several minutes later, Dr. Pierce, one of the most trusted physicians in my employ, was sitting beside Enslee and investigating the gash on her head. We hovered nearby and once or twice might’ve overstepped because he’d glance up at us and wait for us to step back before he continued.
“Her pulse and breathing are all good. I don’t even think we’ll need to stitch up the cut at this time. Whatever happened to her, she is one lucky woman.” Yeah, lucky her and unlucky us. “She should wake up soon. If not, that might be cause for concern.”
“She will wake up, right?” Brogan asked in a shaky voice.
“Absolutely. Why don’t you two give me a few minutes with her, and I’ll look her over a little more.”
Knowing Brogan wanted to argue, I tugged at his arm. “Pierce is right, Brogan. Let’s go into the kitchen and have a beer, then we’ll come back.”
He threw his hands up in surrender, then followed me out of the room and back across the house.
Once he was seated at the large island, I grabbed two of the local craft beers we’d always liked so much and removed the top before sliding it over to him.
I opened mine, and after taking a large swig, I saw Brogan just staring down at his.
