55. Brogan #2
I left his office and went to wait for him inside the living room.
Because I knew there was dim lighting that automatically came on like a night light in the hallway, I turned off the others, then stood by the door.
As I waited, I pulled out the dagger that matched the same one found at Layla’s place.
I turned it over and over in my hand as the methodical sounds coming from the tall grandfather clock in the other room began to drive me mad.
It ticked loudly, and my heart rate soon fell into step with the tick-tock, tick-tock of it.
Soon, headlights came up the driveway and I knew this was it.
I pressed myself against the wall, then listened to him curse about the lighting when he’d stopped on the front porch.
He wouldn't have to worry about them much longer. Soon, they’d be back on, and he'd come face-to-face with his worst fucking nightmare.
The knob jangled seconds before the door opened, and as soon as he turned to close it, I helped him by kicking it shut and wrapping my arm around his neck.
He tried to fight me off until I spoke, and then he stilled.
“Evening, Father.” He started swatting at my hand, but my grip was too strong.
“Get off me, Son. What the hell’s your problem?
” I did so, but not because he’d told me to.
Flipping on the light, my father turned, and his eyes widened as he looked at my face.
“I heard that you were released today. What the fuck are you doing here this late at night? Are you trying to give your father a damn heart attack?”
“One couldn’t get that lucky. Your cardiologists already said you have the heart of a forty-year-old. Such a pity.”
“Again, why are you here?”
I grinned maniacally. “I'm not here to scare you, Father. I'm here to take what’s rightfully mine. Additionally, I’m here to give you what you deserve.” His eyes narrowed as he looked at me in confusion. “I know what you’ve done.”
He took a few steps back. I moved toward him, grabbed him by the shirt, then yanked him to me. Once I did, I pressed the knife to his throat, and any struggle he’d attempted ceased.
“What the hell are you talking about, Brogan?”
“You knew where Layla was all this time. Didn’t you?”
“Of course not.” I pressed the knife tighter to his throat.
“You’d planted that weapon, didn't you?”
I could tell he was afraid to breathe because his face went from red to blue.
It was because of the blade I had pressed against his throat.
Finally, I removed it and pushed him backward, causing him to lose his balance.
He fell on his ass, then started to quickly crawl backward, trying to find something to help him up.
Like a predator, I slowly followed behind him.
The knife glistened in the bright light of the room.
“Are you trying to end up back in prison?”
“The one who belongs there is you.”
“For what, Brogan? We both know I’ll never go to prison.” His words didn’t match his confidence because he scowled. Finally, he made it to a table, and I watched as he scrambled back onto his feet.
“Kidnapping for one. Framing someone for a crime. You were also the one to get the blood on that knife, so we could add attempted murder as well.”
“Those charges would never stick.”
“They won't? Are you sure about that?” I arched a brow. “I have a witness ready to testify against you. You remember Layla Harte, I presume.” He opened his mouth to speak, but I continued cutting off anything he might’ve had to say.
“She’ll testify about more than just recent events too.
After speaking with her, I now know you enjoy fucking young girls…
teenage girls…” His face paled. “Yes, I know everything about you, Father. You’re a disgusting piece of shit. ”
“Brogan—” he started, but I cut him off.
“I wonder if I could bring you to a place like the one you’d brought me to. It didn't get the queerness out of me, but maybe it’ll get the pedophilia out of you.”
“Brogan, listen to me.”
“I'm through listening to you. You're going to listen to me now.” I grabbed him by the throat, then tightened my hand around it.
Fear was quickly filling my father's eyes.
I'd always stood up to him… always talked back to him…
always defied him at every turn, but never had I had the weapons at my disposal that I did now.
I wasn't talking about the fucking knife, either. I didn't need that in this moment. In fact, I tossed it to the side and smirked as it clanged off the wood floor. Any relief he might’ve found quickly disappeared the moment my grip tightened. I backed him up against the wall, then struck him in the face. His head fell back, and he groaned. I took innate satisfaction in the blood now dotting his bottom lip. “You fucking disgust me, and you’re about to pay for all of your sins.”
“W-what do you want?” he stammered.
I grinned once more. “You know what I want from you, and you're going to give it to me. I'm going to take what's rightfully mine. Depending on whether we do this the easy way or the hard way will determine if you go on living, and if so, in what condition.”
“Can't we talk about this?”
“What the fuck is there to talk about? You set me up for murder. You were willing to let me spend the rest of my goddamn life behind bars in a fucking prison.”
“I told you that I would’ve gotten you out.”
“Yes, I already know the conditions. Now your life is going to hang in the balance with conditions.” Pulling him away from the wall, I struck him again, and then pushed him until he stumbled forward, but he managed to maintain his balance.
I forced him back toward the table, then I kicked the back of his knee right before he reached it, and he fell on his own and bellowed out in pain.
I gripped his gray hair and yanked his head back before I thrust the folder in front of him.
“You're going to sign over the majority of your shares of Sinclair Pharmaceuticals to me, free and clear. They’re coming over to me as a gift.”
“Brogan, we could talk about this. There's got to be something—”
“There's nothing I want or need from you. You’ll give me what’s rightfully mine.”
“I won't do it,” he swore vehemently, so I pushed his face forward, slamming it onto the table once, twice, and three times before yanking his head back again. “Are you fucking crazy? You're going to kill me.”
“Even better. I’ll never have to lay eyes on you, and I inherit them all.
If that’s your final answer, then…” I paused and slammed his head forward again.
This time, I released him from my grip and watched as his head hung forward.
Drops of blood dripped onto the light hardwood.
I pulled a pen out of my pocket and removed the papers from the folder.
He still looked unconvinced until I picked up the knife still lying nearby.
I quickly brought it back to his throat, as I continued to hold out the pen. “Pick it up,” I commanded.
“No.” I pressed the blade harder against his throat and finally heard him audibly gulp.
“Put the pen in your fucking hand now.” This time, he didn’t test me and quickly grabbed it.
“Now sign your fucking name here… here… and here where the three X’s are.
” He hesitated until I stepped on the back of his leg.
He growled, then quickly scribbled his signature on the first. I stepped down a little harder until he did the second, and finally signed the third too.
I pulled that piece of paper up, flipped to the next, and pointed with my fingers at two more lines.
He quickly scribbled his name on those as well, and finally on the third page, he signed his name to it.
Having what I needed to now control all of Sinclair Pharmaceuticals, I pulled the knife away from his throat and yanked him up onto his feet.
He watched me stuff the papers back into the envelope.
“You won't get away with this, Brogan.”
“I already have. You're the one that's not going to get away with this. I’m simply doing what should’ve been done years ago. And with this out of the way, you're about to pay for those other sins of yours.”
“I’ve signed the papers. What the hell more do you want?”
The only thing left involved the syringe I pulled out of my pocket.
When he saw it, he immediately took flight as he raced toward the stairs.
I was far faster and stronger than him, so he’d barely made it halfway up them when I grabbed him by the leg and yanked his body toward me.
As soon as he tumbled three or four steps down, I stabbed the syringe into his hip and released the drug.
“What the fuck is in that?”
I stepped back, and he quickly turned around to face me. “Only one of the more promising drugs currently undergoing clinical studies.”
“What kind of drug?”
I smirked. “One for chemical castration. Sinclair Pharmaceuticals believes pedophiles and sexual predators should be made to pay for their crimes. Since you like to rape young girls and women, this will make it much harder. It’s a shame, or not, that you might never get another hard on again.”
“Brogan—”
“Enjoy your sexless life and stay the fuck out of mine. Also, don’t ever step foot in Sinclair Pharmaceuticals again, or else I’ll have you arrested for trespassing.
Lastly, don't call me. Don't visit me. Don't speak to me.
The next time you and I are this close, you won't live to regret it.” With that, I grabbed my things and left.
