39. Chapter Thirty-Nine
My eyes stay transfixed on the laptop, watching Cameron circle Callie’s body like he’s a lion and she’s his prey. My stomach is in knots, and my hands gripping the arms of the leather chair so hard that my knuckles have turned white.
“They can’t be far. He had time to set up this laptop, take her and get to their location before we got here, so they have to be close. I’ve sent you a picture of the feed, you can’t see much of the room that they’re in, but I need you to analyse it and try to figure out where the fuck they are!” Connor snaps.
“Kid, I know you’re stressed and worried, but trust me when I tell you, I’m doing everything I can at the moment. I promise I’ll find out where she is.”
As Connor ends the call, slinging his phone across the room, Cameron steps closer to Callie on the screen, his head bowed over hers as he talks about Clarissa.
My eyes bug out of my head and my teeth grit together as I watch him punch her in the side of the head. When her scream echoes through the speaker, my eyes water, and my stomach twists.
“We need to help her.”
“We will. Nate called his Dad once he reached the hospital. Colin’s driving here now, and he has people searching all of Derek’s properties,” Brad says, placing his hands on my shoulders.
Callum’s sitting opposite me with his head in his hands whilst Connor paces the length of the room.
Neither of them wanted to monitor the feed, so I volunteered to keep an eye on Callie. We realised that Cameron was watching us through the camera installed on the laptop, so we stuck tape over it. There’s also no sound from our end, but we can hear everything that”s happening in the room Callie is in.
I slam my eyes shut when Cameron smashes her head against the table, and I feel Brad’s hands tighten on my shoulders.
“Once he found out the truth, everything changed.”
I open my eyes when I hear Cameron speak, leaning forward and turning the volume up, watching him and Callie intently.
“He became obsessed with you! He wanted to hurt you because he couldn’t hurt Clarissa. He spent time away from me because he was too busy planning things for you!” he shouts, walking to the other side of the room which is off-screen.
“Do Johnny or Colin have a lead yet?” I ask, my eyes drifting from the screen to Connor. He frowns and shakes his head. “I think he’s losing it, he’s all over the place, and he”s so angry. Now he’s gone off-screen, and I feel like this is about to get really bad, Con. I can’t watch this.”
