CHAPTER 40
Amara recognized those magnetic grey orbs instantly. How couldn’t she when those eyes tormented her nights and ruled her days? The tension in her body was replaced with something unknown, even to her.
"Kaelith?" She muttered in shock not believing her eyes.
Why was he here? Did he kidnap her? Kaelith raised his brow, jerking her by the wrist making her gasp as he pulled her to his chest wrapping his arm carefully around her waist trying not to touch her wounds.
The impact had her stumbling into his arms. Before she could move, he locked her arms behind her back.
"What-what are you doing!?” she struggled.
"I like this fiery version of yours, little one.
But there's only little much I can endure.
" His words sent shivers down her spine, and she gasped as he deftly twisted her wrist, causing her body to pivot.
Her back met his chest, and despite her attempted resistance, her legs flailed in a futile kick.
Swiftly overpowering her, he pressed her onto the bed, his right knee trapping her waist. With a firm grip, he seized both her wrists, pinning them above her head, his muscular frame ensnaring her.
Stilled by his proximity, she felt the palpable surge of both anger and something sinister emanating from him.
“Why didn’t you tell me he was abusing you?” Kaelith’s dark angry eyes penetrated through her as he seethed.
She gulped hard, averting her gaze as her heart raced with escalating tension. His hand slyly slid to her waist, the delicate lace of her nightgown providing little resistance against his warmth. Her breath hitched.
Sensing his hands exploring, she keenly felt his touch, the flimsy fabric offering minimum protection against his intimidating presence.
"W-where am I? Why did you… bring me here?" she tried to find her voice changing the topic. Kaelith watched as her chest heaved up and down. He liked that he had that effect on her. Amidst of tension, she failed to notice the tick in his jaw.
Amara lowered her gaze to his shirt and gasped when she saw specks of blood on his white shirt. Her head whisked in his direction.
"Rafael…you…what did you do to him?” she thrashed her body hard feeling scared all of a sudden. There were unmistakable specks of blood on his white shirt.
Kaelith clenched his jaw not liking the way she wriggled underneath him, trying to get away.
His eyes couldn't wander away from her face. Memorizing every single detail he missed. His heart thudded loudly against his chest as if he found his god. Like his world didn’t exit beyond her arms.
The sight that her eyes didn’t like, he vowed to never see that scenery. Somewhere in her was the shore he desperately sought after drowning in the ocean of his darkness.
The way her body was pressed against his, the beating of her heart, the shivers running down his spine lewdly. Even with a scowl on her face, he wanted to kiss away her frown.
The light he always imagined in his dark life, she was just like that. Innocent face with two lovely eyes.
But then just like a flash of light hit him, her bloodied body flashed before his eyes. The state he found her in evoked suppressed emotions.
He followed her fearful gaze and then lifted his eyes at her.
"Don't worry, the blood's not mine." He mumbled unconsciously, his eyes still lingering over her like he was seeing her for the first time.
His jaw ticked as he saw the bandages wrapped around her arm.
And that’s when he decided. No matter what the future held for them, he’d never let her go. He’ d fight the world for her. He’d fight himself for her.
"What did you do?" she took his dazed look as her cue and twisted her body to the right taking him off guard as his hold on her wrists loosened and she quickly jumped off the bed. Kaelith grunted as he pulled himself off the bed.
"Are you worried...little one?” she noticed the mock in his eyes. "He's fine. Well," he shrugged his shoulders. "If barely breathing counts."
Kaelith was visibly angry and in utter disbelief. She dared to worry about the man who left her bleeding and wounded on the cold floor. She fucking wanted Rafael rather than be happy with him?
Kaelith felt his control slipping. But he reminded himself to be careful with her.
"That's enough, Amara. I don’t fucking care about what you feel anymore, you’ll stay here as long as I want. You try to escape; I’ll make you regret the consequences." Kaelith said taking a step in her direction.
Amara knew he wasn’t blabbering. She just shook her head in disbelief and took a step back.
“Neither of you care. Just let me go. I…I can’t stay with you.”
“And you can stay with him, huh?”
“…No…” She said calmly even though her heart was palpitating. Kaelith’s frown deepened with the flicker of emotions in his eyes. Cold dark charcoal eyes raised as he threateningly took a step in her direction.
Amara swallowed hard.
"Then stay with me. Let me protect you." She took another step back at his advancing ones till her back hit the window. Something about him and his words didn't seem fake.
It looked like he breathed and lived in danger and violence. He did not look like the man she knew.
“And who will protect me from you?” She said feeling anxious.
Corners of Kaelith’s mouth curled upwards, his eyes gleamed malevolently. There was an unsettling confidence in his laugh. His eerie grin caused an uneasy sensation to creep up her bare arms raising the hair follicle in their wake.
"There," his grin widened. Amara felt chills running down her spine as he stopped at a reachable distance. "See, how divine you look obeying me."
Kaelith leaned in, his voice a smooth and convincing rhythm, "Fear not, little one. I'm not the danger, if anything, I'm the shield that hides it.” He slid his fingers beneath her chin, tilting it upward with a subtle yet firm touch.
“Embrace the shadows with me, and you'll find peace in my chaos.” Amara looked tongue-tied at him realizing the meaning behind his words.
He offered protection wrapped in a veil of allure. A sanctuary only he could provide. The dark promises.
His fingers underneath her chin sensually traced the length of her slender neck.
“No matter how much you resist this, you cannot resist the temptation, little one. Fuck, I can feel your pulse jacking up, are you sure you want me to let you go?” He feigned mock in his tone and brushed the back of his fingers against her collarbone.
The feathery touches evoked tingling sensations heightening the sensitivity of her body. She shivered but this time, it had nothing to do with fear.
“S-Stop, please.” Amara gasped feeling helpless and confused at her body’s reaction.
Kaelith noticed and bit his lips to hide his grin. “What? This?” His fingers continued tracing along her collarbones to her shoulders and hooked his one finger into the strap of the nightgown.
“Kaelith…”
“Yes, say my name. Recite it like a prayer,” he lowered his mouth to her ear. “Only god you’ll ever worship is me, only name you’ll ever remember is mine. I’ll taint you in a way you’ll forget the difference between sin and redemption.”
Her chest heaved up and down, her breasts brushing against his shirt. Amara forgot how to breathe. He was so close. Close enough to look into her soul. Eyes so dark she forgot their original color.
This was it… the exact thing she feared…. resisted… hoped for? She wasn’t in her senses to comprehend him. Was he going to possess her as he promised? She couldn’t dare ask, she could hardly even speak.
