Epilogue
Siena turned her cards over and didn’t even bother adopting her usual poker face.
She would need a miracle to get anything out of these cards, and when you were playing a master poker player, namely her cousin Francesca, sometimes it was wise to throw your hand in at the first opportunity.
She would swear their monthly poker tournament was Francesca’s way of fleecing her husband, cousin and cousin-in-law.
So good was she at the game that Siena had banned her from playing poker at her casinos, which Elio had signed back over to her two days after she’d moved back in with him.
“Your wife is a shark,” Elio growled to Gino when Francesca won that hand. It was a complaint he made at least ten times a tournament.
Gino grinned and poured them all another drink. Francesca simply smiled beatifically and added her latest winnings to her enormous pile of poker chips.
It wasn’t long before Francesca had cleaned them all out. “Who’s up for another?” she asked innocently.
“Not a chance,” Siena said, finishing her non-alcoholic drink and looking at her diamond-encrusted watch, a thirtieth birthday gift from her husband.
Four months pregnant with their third child, alcohol was off the menu for the foreseeable, which was just as it should be.
“Anyway, it’s getting late, and we’ve got an early start in the morning. ”
But, really, she just wanted to drag her husband home and into bed. The gleam in his eyes told her he knew exactly what she was thinking. That Francesca and Gino’s protests sounded half-hearted made her think they were planning the same for themselves.
After kissing their hosts, who also happened to be their family and closest business associates, goodbye, Siena followed Elio into the back of the car and immediately snuggled into him with a contented sigh.
He kissed the top of her head and cupped her breast. She swung her legs over his lap and guided his hand between her legs.
Seven years of marriage.
They’d been the best years of her life.
