Bound to My Undercover Billionaire CEO (Possessive Billionaires of Velhaven #1)
CHAPTER ONE
Lorelei
When I wrote down that I intend to make new changes in my life this year, I meant my dating life, not that my work life would become complicated.
“Yes, Lorelei here,” I answer for the tenth time in the past fifteen minutes.
I might have made a huge mistake accepting the offer to become the temporary Dispatch Supervisor. I know quite well how hard James, the previous supervisor, had to work, but I never knew the job was this straining.
“As I mentioned already, you have to get the shipment to the warehouse as quickly as possible. That order should have been sorted out this morning, and you can’t afford to be late,” I repeat to the driver on the other end.
Clearly, most of them are not happy with taking their instructions from the ‘new girl’ who used to work in the back office, but at the moment, everyone is dealing with one form of change or another.
With the company’s current situation, nothing is guaranteed, and that’s something that keeps me awake at night.
“Everything okay there?” A knock raps on the window, and I look up to see Logan, one of the drivers, standing there.
“Yeah, just dealing with another angry driver and getting used to this new role,” I say with a heavy sigh.
Logan smiles before assuring me that it might take a while for me to adjust, but I’d do a good job.
He is one of the good guys, and he always checked up on me back when I worked in the back office, helping James with filing whatever needed to be filed.
Most people barely pay any attention to me, and it isn’t that they are oblivious to my presence, but they don’t have that much time to talk to me.
Unlike Logan.
Another phone ringing snaps me back to reality, and I give directions to a rather confused driver who has no idea who is meant to receive the shipment in his truck.
Working in the back office used to be quite boring and monotonous.
Being a Dispatch Supervisor isn’t boring, but it sure is nerve-racking, and I’m not sure if I can cope without help.
James had mentioned that sufficient help would be coming soon, and I can’t wait for them to be here.
Leaning back into my new chair, I reach for my cup of coffee, and that’s when I spot him, standing there, looking lost. The very first thing that comes to my attention is how he seems to fill the room.
Tall. He’s really tall.
Standing in the bustling room, a deep frown on his face, his eyebrows narrowing as he looks around.
Our eyes meet, and for a brief moment, I feel something course through my entire body.
It was almost like a shiver, but something else.
I thought about ducking out, but he had clearly seen me, and even though it was just for a few seconds, it felt like a lifetime.
He begins to walk in my direction, and I wonder who he might be. I have never seen him before, so I know he doesn’t work here.
“Hello, I’m supposed to bring this here,” he begins in a deep, sultry voice.
Everything about this man sends thrills surging down my spine. It has been a while since I have felt such a strong, intense attraction to a man.
“And who are-” I trail off as I spot the badge he’s wearing.
Ah! The analyst from our new parent company has arrived.
“Finally, nice to have you here,” I say, clearing my throat. “You won’t believe how swamped I am.”
“Sorry?” He asks, confusion appearing on his face. The way he arches his deep brows is quite seductive, and I can tell that he’s not the type to lack the ladies’ attention.
“My apologies. You’re the analyst, right? The one James said would be coming this afternoon?”
While speaking to James earlier this morning, he had mentioned that the Dispatch Analyst would be arriving today, and he had mentioned that he is quite the looker, though that seems to be an understatement.
“My name is Lorelei, and I’m temporarily stepping in for James.”
“Right,” he says, slowly looking around, his eyebrows arched.
I let my eyes wash over him, and the truth?
I like what I see. A strong, chiseled jawline, lush brows, with eyes that seem to be a mixture of blue and gray.
A prominent nose and defined lips that I find myself longing to taste.
He runs his hand through his silky black hair, and I’m convinced that this man has to be a god who has come to visit us mortals.
He is wearing a blue cotton shirt and beige pants, and I have never thought a man could ooze sexiness even with his clothes on.
A deep throb starts within me, and I can almost imagine how it would feel to be satisfied by him. To have his hands against my skin, caressing every part of me while I murmur out his name.
I can picture him sliding himself inside me.
“Are things always like this?” He asks, waving his hand around.
By this, he is referring to how the room is constantly filled with people going back and forth, sorting out things. Westward Logistics not only deals with truck deliveries, but we also have bikes, cars, and even bicycle deliveries, and most of them make their way here whenever they are done.
“No, but you know how things are,” I say with a shrug as the phone rings again.
The analyst barely says a word as he continues to look around, his gaze going over my small, cramped space, though it won’t be mine for long.
“Thank you and keep me updated,” I end the call, returning my attention to my dazzling new friend.
He’s not your friend yet.
“Sorry, I didn’t get your name.”
“Because I didn’t give it,” he answers smugly.
I resist the urge to sigh. As sexy as he might be, he is no doubt cocky. Men like him can be a headache, and I really can’t deal with someone with an inflated ego, not when I’m stretched thin.
“Alright, but I can’t keep calling you analyst now, can I?”
He looks at me, something akin to amusement dancing in his eyes. I’m sure men with degrees like his, look down on people like me who scraped by to get their GED.
“Has anyone ever told you that you’re quite the comedienne?” He asks as he leans closer, his eyes studying me intensely.
Should I just punch him in the face?
Sadly, I can’t do that to his handsome face, though I can think of something else I’d love to do.
“Yes, my grandma,” I answer without missing a beat.
The longer I stay around this man, the more I find myself having improper thoughts about him, and considering how we would be working together, that might be dangerous.
His eyes continue to study me before he straightens up. “Desmond. The name is Desmond.”
“Alright, Desmond,” I stress his name. “Where exactly do you want to start?”
He folds his arms and then gestures towards me. “Anywhere you think best. I am really curious as to how this department is handled.”
Right. I’m sure you are.
“I thought you might. I’ve prepared a few reports, and they’re at the back,” I inform him.
“Great. Show them to me right away.”
I can imagine him pinning me against the wall, a man of his build would have no problem holding me down, even if I am a bit curvier than most of the women here.
Just the thought of him pressing his body against me has my cheeks burning.
Within minutes of meeting the man, all I can think about is how much I want him to pleasure me.
Just a shame that won’t happen.
With everything going on in my life, a workplace romance is the last thing I need anyway. I need this job for both my grandmother and my survival, and if enduring a rather annoying man is all it requires, then I would gladly do that.
*******
Desmond is a little bit annoying in a rather cute way. Does he get on my nerves? Yes, but it’s not like he’s doing it to piss me off.
The moment I managed to take him to where I kept the reports, he had simply declared that there was no way he would be working in those conditions.
In his words, he’d rather die than sit in a cramped, moldy place.
The cramped, moldy place he was referring to has been my working space for the past eighteen months, and while it might not be the best, it isn’t as bad as he is painting it out to be.
In the end, I agreed to share my office with him, which turned out to be a huge mistake as I just find myself thinking about him.
Once, I thought I saw him with a huge bulge in his pants, but between answering different calls and speaking to frustrated drivers, I couldn’t confirm if the man was sporting something big.
Like any woman, I have been attracted to handsome men, but this feels different.
It’s almost as if Desmond’s presence had awakened a long-hidden desire deep within my soul.
“Whew, that was quite stressful,” Desmond says as he stretches his long legs, almost kicking me in the process.
“Yeah, I bet we might find you somewhere nice to stay tomorrow,” I answer, trying to keep the sarcasm out of my voice.
“Nah, I think I’ll stay here with you. I like you.” He turns in my direction, flashing me a smile.
I roll my eyes, count to three in my head before calmly pointing out to him that he doesn’t have to like me, since I am his boss. “It’s temporary, but you report back to me.”
Keeping a tough image is important. Can’t crumble in front of the new guy!
“Really? So does this mean we get to spend time together?”
Which might be bad for my mental health.
Before I can answer his question, Logan and two other drivers appear, a deep frown on their faces.
“I heard we have a new analyst,” one of the men says.
“Are these the drivers?” Desmond points at them.
He has a really punchable face.
Everyone is on the edge, thinking about what their fate would be, and it isn’t exactly a secret that Desmond is from the headquarters. The fact that he is acting this way would definitely get on people’s nerves.
“Yes. Guys, this is Desmond,” I quickly step in, hoping to ease the tension.
Desmond chooses that exact moment to lean back into his chair, his hands folded as he studies them. “I’m sensing that you don’t like me,” he begins.
Thank God you know that.
Desmond isn’t entirely oblivious, it seems, and he probably caught all the gazes that have been thrown in our direction all morning.
Somehow, word about him had spread, and quite a number of people had passed by our little office to catch a glimpse of him.
The ladies were swooning, no doubt realizing how dashing he is, but the men?
Especially the two men who are currently with Logan?
They’d clearly made their feelings about Desmond’s presence clear a few times by grumbling and muttering when they passed by our office, and Desmond had clearly picked up on that.
The man right next to Logan is Alfred, and I can’t remember the name of the second guy, but they are quite the troublemakers, as James had warned me, and it seems like they intend to make trouble for Desmond. I expect their harassment to get serious unless somehow Desmond makes them back down.
“But I’m going to be here for a while, so I suggest you all get used to that feeling. If you can’t, then you might have to search for new employment.”
Desmond’s tone has an edge to it, and it feels like he is threatening them.
It seems making people annoyed is something he is quite good at, and I watch the men who stare at him, complete surprise appearing on their faces.
Logan is the first to move. He takes two steps and arrives in front of Desmond.
They both stare at each other for a few seconds before Logan stretches his hands and introduces himself.
With Logan’s charm, the entire situation quickly diffuses, and the men are laughing.
At least, that’s how it looks on the surface.
Such a sweetheart!
Logan flashes me a smile before the men resume conversation with Desmond, who is assuring them he doesn’t intend to make things difficult for anyone. The rest of the day goes by smoothly, and I clock out of work together with Desmond, who keeps looking at his phone.
“Well, I hope to see you tomorrow,” Desmond says as I walk towards the elevator.
“Yeah, right. You don’t have to flatter me with words.”
He smiles and shakes his head. “One thing about me, Lorelei, I don’t flatter people.”
Somehow, the way my name rolls off his tongue makes my entire body shiver.
Desmond is, without a doubt, a dangerous man, but I don’t have to be afraid of him.
Women like me aren’t even on his radar. He is probably used to beautiful, dashing women who look like supermodels from the top fashion magazines in the world, trying to get his attention.
Hence, plain-looking women like me just won’t cut it.
It’s the harsh reality of life.
But what if he takes an interest in me? What if he realizes how much effect he has on me, and he wants to take advantage of me?
I won’t be able to resist him, no doubt about that, and in my book, that makes him a glaring danger to me.
Being anywhere near a man like Desmond would only end in regrets for me, and I am too battered to let my heart go through another beating.
Yet, I am stuck with him for quite a while.
“Anyway, I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.”
While I can’t stand his arrogant attitude, I do look forward to seeing his handsome face again. The fact that I don’t like the man’s personality doesn’t mean I have to give up on looking at that handsome and sexy body all day. No doubt I have found something new to think about when I touch myself.
Shame I can’t make him do the job for me.
“You can count on that, Lorelei.” Desmond flashes a smile at me.
I shiver, still not used to the way he calls my name.
I need to remember that this man poses a threat to the stability in my life now, yet I can’t stop myself from reveling in this feeling.
Working with Desmond is going to be fun and probably one of the few ways I can get my mind off the harsh reality of my life.
While I have been trying to put up a strong front, the truth is that I need this job to be able to stay here in the United States.
Thinking about that won’t help my job, and after checking on my grandma, who is fast asleep, I get under the covers and find my hands going into my panties. I imagine what it would look like having Desmond in bed with me. His large hands on my tits and his mouth trailing kisses down my neck.
A moan almost escapes from me as I imagine his cock sliding into me as he grips me tightly, moving his hips to pleasure me. Seconds later, I cling tightly to the edge of my bed as my entire body shivers with pleasure.
Thank you for that, Desmond.
