Chapter Nine

When darkness fell...

It all looked quiet at the compound.

Pride kept pacing. “When is it gonna go down?” he asked impatiently.

Krill raised his brows as he replied, “These men do things in Bratva time.”

Pride stopped his pacing and stared at him in confusion. “What the hell does that mean?”

Yuri turned to answer this, “It means, careful, quick, and deadly. Once it starts, it will take less than 10 minutes and the enemy will be vanquished. This is Bratva timing.”

“And what if it takes longer than that?” Pride asked.

Viktor turned to glance at him. “It never has before.”

“Ever?” Candyman asked as he smiled.

Viktor nodded. “We cannot have ourselves caught by the local lawmen. Or the feds being called in. We are Russian operatives. My men are in within 5, then out in five.” He then turned his head and nodded as he spoke into his mic on his headset, “Grisha, go BOOM.”

Suddenly, on the darkened monitors, the whole place lit up like the Fourth of July as lights flared while the doors at the back and front blew simultaneously.

Candyman, Cosmos and Rage all rushed over to those two monitors, to stare at the bright spectacle.

Yuri looked over at Viktor and grinned. “He does love the boom.”

Sergi nodded in proud agreement. “And he is good at it too.”

Next, gunshots could be heard.

Now men swarmed out of the back area of the buildings, scurrying like frightened mice running from a vicious killer cat.

Scattering to all sides of the property to escape, they found huge men dressed from head to toe in black, stopping them from leaving.

They tried their best to get away but they never even tried to fight.

They raised their arms up and surrendered.

“Well that sucked,” Pride complained. “No firefight? No fist to fist? What is the matter with these guys?”

Rage, Pride’s Enforcer, agreed, “What a letdown.”

“Maybe they are not loyal enough to their leader to fight,” Sergi suggested.

“Like she isn’t worth dying for, ya mean.” Pride nodded.

Candyman scoffed. “They probably knew about her plans to dump them all.”

Viktor listened on his earbuds for updates. “It seems only a few fought back and they died. Then the rest tucked their tails and cried like babies as they gave up.”

“What bunch of fucking pussies,” Pride muttered then he blinked at the screen and asked, “So, where are your men?”

All the prisoners were already gone as well as any sign of the Enforcers.

“They beat their old record it seems,” Sergi stated with a grin. “Five in, three out.”

After a few more minutes, the monitor showed two large men hauling out something very odd from the mansion.

“What on earth is that?” Pride asked as he puzzled over the image.

“Zoom in, Kosta,” Sergi ordered.

Kosta nodded and did so.

The monitor showed the object closer then it enlarged.

“It is LaDonna,” Serenity confirmed. “It matches her ID anyway.”

“Boss, we have a problem,” Matvey said into his mic as he and Andrey carried the person they captured to a van.

“I see that,” Vicktor replied over his mic as he looked troubled.

“Wait a fucking minute!” Pride exclaimed. “Is she...?” His voice fell away to utter shock.

They couldn’t believe what they all saw. The woman who had fooled the Bratva and blackmailed all the crime organizations in New Orleans while making millions...was bound to a wheelchair.
