Chapter Three
Instead of telling him the answer, Serenity hit the print button and then got up and walked over to the printer where page after page was being printed. When the printer finally stopped, she took the pages over to Sergi and handed them to him.
Sergi looked down at them. He studied the pages for a while then at the last email his eyes widened. “What the hell is this?”
Serenity cleared her throat and replied, “You remember those explosives Dominic sent to her? The one stolen from the Bratva? Well, she’s had them about four months now and she enhanced them with a biologic that is airborne.
It would kill a lot of people. And she is supposed to meet up with someone that is willing to spend millions to get their hands on it.
He was coming to get the stuff in three days.
Oh, and he’s not the kind of man that will accept the deal is dead and the explosives are no longer available.
From what these emails say, he’s already paid half the bounty for them and that money is no longer in her accounts.
And he’s not the type of man that you can even attempt to swindle out of that kind of money. ”
Kosta shook his head and asked, “How much money are we talking about here?”
“He paid 50 million dollars up front and he still owes another 50 million,” Serenity told them.
“Do we know who this guy is?” Yuri wanted to know.
Serenity shrugged. “All I found was one name, Killian.”
Yuri hissed and looked over at Sergi. “I’ve heard that name and what I heard isn’t good news for us.”
Viktor stalked into the room and his eyes were stormy. He stopped just short of Sergi and his hands were clenched tightly into fists. “We found the men watching the hotel. All but two of them worked for LaDonna. The other two men worked for someone else.”
Sergi nodded. “Let me guess, they work for a man named Killian.”
Viktor paused to ask, “Killian? Are you sure about that?”
Sergi shrugged. “Serenity just found out about another contact LaDonna had. So, we are up against both Dominic and this Killian cretin.”
Viktor paused. “This man Killian is a high value, high paid assassin who offers protection for a price. And I also hear he’s not picky about who he protects as long as they pay his price.”
Sergi thought for a moment about Viktor’s words. Then he remembered a man who might be able to give him more of an insight into what danger this creep Killian could give him. Sergi nodded then looked at Yuri with a smile. “I need to make a phone call.”
“Who are you going to call?” Yuri stared at him.
Viktor nodded at this and stared at him with more questions in his eyes.
Sergi smiled at them all and stated, “I know all kinds of people. I can call an expert.” Then he turned and walked out of the room, leaving everyone staring at the door.
Viktor looked at Felix who just stood there with his arms crossed over his chest. “This is unusual for a man like Sergi.”
Felix just shrugged. “He’s right, he knows a lot of different men but he also knows who he trusts and who not to trust.”
“And you are ok with that, brother?” Kosta wanted to know.
Felix sighed heavily. “Even if I am not. You know Sergi as well as I do. You cannot tell that man a damn thing. But I think he’ll get a good answer to whatever question he has.”
Viktor crossed his arms over his chest. “And just who do you think he’s calling?”
Felix shook his head. “A dangerous man but he’s also an honorable man.”
Viktor scoffed. “Is there such a man? Both dangerous and honorable? I’ve met both kinds of men in this life but it would be rare to find one man that is both.”
Felix nodded. “Well Viktor, one could say that you are under that same description, correct?”
Viktor shook his head even though he made no denial.
Kosta snorted.
Serenity and Nicky looked at each other and smirked.
The phone call...
Sergi headed down the hall and stepped into a conference room.
Then he walked over to the control panel normally hidden until they needed it to tape an interrogation.
He switched off recording and audio. Then he sat down at the table.
His men may have heard rumors and stories about killers such as this Killian but he knew someone that might know if such stories were real or just exaggerations.
He reached for his cell and opened his contacts then he slowly scrolled through the mountain of names he had saved in his phone. He found the one he wanted and his hand remained steady as he pressed the call button.
After the third ring, the call was answered. The voice on the other end spoke in a calm relaxed tone, “Hello, Mr. Constantine.”
Sergi sighed hard and exhaled slowly. “I find myself in a dilemma right now and I need to pick your brain for the type of man I just recently found out is associated with someone we just took down. I know that’s complicated but the whole situation we’re in is complicated right now.”
The man on the other end chuckled. “Well, that’s as clear as mud.”
“Blin, it is but as you are aware, one capture leads to another and often the dark pit gets deeper before you even know it.”
“Suppose you just tell me what you feel comfortable with telling me.”
Sergi sat up straighter and replied, “Da I know we don’t know each other all that well but we have a common friend and I find that friend’s opinion means a great deal to me. He’s told me on several occasions that he trusts you and your people and I think I could use a fresh opinion on this matter.”
The voice on the other end of the call went silent then he said, “What can I help you with?”
Sergi went on to explain their situation and the players. The bioweapon and the woman who caused it all. “We’ve come to understand there’s a new player but we don’t know anything about him and I thought you might know something.”
The other man was silent, then he asked. “Can you give me a name?”
Sergi sighed hard. “All we know is the name Killian.” He paused as silence fell again.
“Killian? Are you sure it’s Aaron Killian?”
“I am not sure about the Aaron part. All we have so far is the Killian part,” Sergi admitted. “Do you know of him?”
“Yeah and what I know doesn’t bode well for you.”
“Is that so?” Sergi asked. “What kind of man is this Killian?”
“He is as cold as the day is long. Unscrupulous as hell too. He signs his contracts in blood and he doesn’t consider them fulfilled until his mark is dead.
If he misses once he’ll track the contact through hell if necessary and even if you change your mind he won’t stop until the mark is dead or he is.
He’s not shy about how he kills and if you happen to cross him or double-cross him, he won’t stop until he wipes out, not only you but members of your family as well.
He’s ruthless because he thinks no one knows where he lives and that’s the only thing that protects him. ”
Sergi crossed his arms over his chest. “Why do I have a feeling you know so much more than you are telling me?”
The other man was silent for a moment then he chuckled. “You are very good at reading even words spoken over a phone. Impressive.”
“Da, in what I do I can read things quickly, something I learned to do very well over the years. Now tell me what else do you know about this Killian?”
“I know a few of Killian’s secrets. And if you’ll allow it, I can help you beat him.”
Sergi then asked, “Why would you join us?”
“Because Killian owes me.”
“How so?” Sergi dared to ask.
“I can have that conversation with you when we have the time. If this man is coming after you or your prisoner, you need to move fast.”
Sergi sighed. “Yes, I have a feeling this man is on his way here. He bought a weapon from our prisoner. But we have it now and that could be a complication either way.”
“Are you in New York?”
“Net, we are in New Orleans,” Sergi explained. “We have caught LaDonna already but we also found her partner in crime and he’s Bratva. Then today we found out about this Killian.”
“Would you be willing to have some help on this mission?”
The offer surprised Sergi. “You would join us? Why?”
There was a pause on the line then the man answered, “Because Killian needs to be put down. The world will never miss a man like him and I just don’t like the man. He is a killer with no moral compass. I have close knowledge that he has killed women and children and they need peace.”
Sergi was quiet for a long moment then he said, “Can you join us then?”
“I would like that. I think it’s finally time to set some wrongs right. We’ll be there soon.” The call ended from the other end.
Sergi put his phone away. He sat there for a few minutes to allow this new wrinkle to set in.
He shrugged. They needed to have this help though.
Viktor and his men were capable and dangerous to enemies, but to have someone who knows all about this Killian.
.. that would up the odds here. Sergi always liked better odds.
That was how he had survived this long. He got to his feet and turned the eyes and the ears in the room back on.
Then he opened the door and made his way down the long hall.
