Chapter Eight
“You have to be mistaken,” Aleria argued. “I just don’t believe my mother slept with a royal. And I don’t think there is anyone alive today with Romanoff blood in them, not after this long.”
Sergi cocked his head and replied, “Oh, you might be surprised. There are men and women with royal blood. The Romanoff’s haven’t disappeared altogether yet.
” In fact, he knew one of the Romanoff’s in person but he never spoke of her.
That secret was hers to tell and it was why no one knew she existed.
“Then why did they try to kill me then?” Aleria asked. “I think I was two when the abuse first started. Then I was twelve when they threw me out. Then they would find me every once in a while.”
“You mean they would hunt you down again and again.” Briar looked disgusted. “And they left you broken and bleeding until the next time.”
Felix looked stunned. “They kept track of her? Is that what you’re saying? Only to beat her up when they found her?”
Briar nodded. “Yeah, that family is totally insane. They managed to find her and would abuse her again. No one deserves to be born as a punching bag for someone else.”
“Definitely not.” Sergi growled. “Maybe we should show this Varga how it feels to be kicked in the face and have his jaw broken.”
Felix grinned. “I can do that. In fact, it would be my pleasure.”
Gennadi agreed, “I would feel like it was an honor to leave him bloody and down in the dirt where he belongs.”
Aleria looked back and forth at them. “Why would you care?”
Felix stared at her and asked, “Why did you care to save my life?”
She didn’t answer this as she shook her head.
Felix then scoffed. “But I do have to say that I just cannot imagine anyone being stupid enough or drunk enough to sleep with your mother in the first damn place.”
Briar chuckled at this.
“So what is your plan then, Sergi?” Serenity asked.
“This is Bratva business and it needs to be deadly but swift. First off, we have to find these followers and deal with them. We should be hearing soon on that matter. I also have some phone calls to make to Russia and the High Council. We should let them know what we found out, so they can prepare for things on their end as well.”
Aleria looked over at Sergi and asked, “And my family? What’s going to happen to them?”
Sergi turned to look at her and said, “They will face the Council and whatever they do is up to them, but I don’t think they will escape death. They did commit Treason against Russia and the Bratva.”
Aleria nodded. “So be it but living in a prison, Russian or American will give them time to reflect on what they did.”
Sergi smiled. “Maybe if they stayed here in America they would have time to reflect and get leniency of life sentences as well. But when they face the High Council in Russia they will stand in front of a firing squad within days. And believe me when the High Council judges them and giving them a few days is being generous.”
“Three days of thinking you are gonna face a hail of bullets,” Briar noted. “I like that for them.”
Serenity agreed, “Fits perfectly for those assholes.”
Aleria just stared at him then she asked, “Does that mean I’ll finally be free of them? That they won’t hunt me down again and try to kill me?”
Sergi moved over to her bed and patted her hand.
“That’s exactly what it means, child. As soon as that plane takes off to go back to Russia you will never have to worry about them anymore.
Your family and their cohorts are not going to escape justice Russian style.
They have been a plague on the Bratva for a very long time and now we’re ready to close this chapter.
And in my world closing a chapter means justice.
For us that means blood for blood. The Bratva isn’t what it once was, no more using and abusing people.
The Secret Police are no longer standing in the shadows waiting for someone to make a mistake and have that someone end up missing.
The prisons are full of people that break the laws and let me tell you something, Russian prisons are not something to be sneezed at.
The criminals that end up there rarely survive it, they don’t sit around bellyaching about not getting the TV station they want to watch.
The prisoners in our prisons do hard labor and barely survive the cold winters.
But your family will not be sentenced to prison for their crimes, they will be executed and rightly so.
And yes, you will finally be free to live a good life.
And you will also be protected by the Bratva. ”
With wide eyes at his statement, Aleria looked at Serenity then at Briar.
Wearing smiles that showed they were more than happy at this summation both women nodded at her.
Aleria lowered her head and tears silently fell down her face.
Buttercup nudged her and licked her tears away.
For the first time in her life, Aleria felt like she could finally breathe freely without looking over her shoulder.
