Epilogue
“Husband, where are you?” Zia’s voice floats up the stairs to our bedroom, where I’m lying down. Grabbing the remote, I turn the TV down. I hear his running feet, and then he dives into the bed next to me, making me laugh as he rolls around and pins me. “Got you.”
“I wasn’t hiding.” I smile. “I was waiting for you to finish work.”
“I’m done, so let’s go eat with your dad, okay?” He kisses me quickly, but I spin us and deepen it as he groans and slaps me. “We’ll be late.”
“Then let’s be late,” I reply as I kiss him again as the sound of Starfire announcing their bid for the world championship fills the air.
My life is like a dream. I didn’t even know what I was missing until I met Zia Xander, but now with his last name added to mine, I know I was lacking him and happiness.
We have weekly family meals with our fathers.
We spend our nights with our friends and our days with each other.
I’ve decided to keep boxing, at least for a little while, defending my title before I’ll take over as a trainer for my father.
Zia’s businesses are busier than ever, though I don’t pretend to understand it all.
I don’t need to. I have my world, and he has his, but somehow, it works.
Our marriage is something we both had to fight to have, but now that we do, I couldn’t be happier.
I was alone before, but now I will never be again, and that’s the way I like it.
Who knew fate could come in the form of a sports car in a storm?
“Skylar, Mackie!” voices call as I slide down my boy’s body as he groans. Even though I hear that noise daily, it still does the same thing to me as it did the first time I heard it. “What are your feelings on this? Will you be working together again as a duo?”
“Absolutely,” someone responds. “Mackie is the only one who can keep up with me.”
“Mackie, you’ve been quiet. Do you plan to stay with Starfire in the long run?”
Groaning, I search for the remote as I bite Zia’s pants. I don’t want to hear anyone’s voice but my boy’s as he screams my name.
“I’m a racer for Starfire, and I’ll bring the championship title home for it, even over Skylar. We’ll see if he can keep up with me.”
I finally find it, and the noises stop except for Zia’s heavy breathing as he looks down at me. “You have five minutes,” he warns.
I smirk. “I only need two.”
