Break Her (The Deviant Duet #2)
Chapter 1
She. Chose. Me.
And now, I was taking her home.
There wasn’t much talking on the two-hour drive, aside from the time we stopped for gas and argued about which chip was superior.
Of course, her favorite had to be the cool ranch tortilla ones. She feigned offense when I called her crazy, though she did try to say my preference for the classic potato chip was boring.
The audacity of this woman.
We both knew I was anything but boring.
I’d have been more than happy to prove it again.
Avery was shaken up at being caught by our parents, but I tried my best to leave the topic alone, at least until we were somewhere she felt safe, somewhere she could break down and let me hold her broken pieces.
I soaked in every moment of the drive. The way she felt behind me, her chest pressed to my back.
The way she would squeeze me when we leaned ‘too far’, which I did on purpose several times, just to feel her tightly against me.
The way she got brave an hour and a half in, sticking her hand out so the wind blew through her fingers.
By the time we reached my apartment building, I felt like a desperate teenage boy, unable to think about anything but the fastest way to get into my girl’s pants. I needed to get her upstairs quick, before I bent her over my bike and fucked her for the world to see.
The idea of anyone else seeing her perfect, pale curves and hearing her symphony of moans and gasps made me want to punch something. I wasn’t about to share Avery with anyone, not if I could help it.
She was all mine.
Mine to love and protect, to break and rebuild. Mine to have and to shield from the world.
“Where are we?” she asked as she removed her helmet. She shook her head, running her fingers through her hair to tame the mess the helmet made of her strands.
“My apartment.”
Her eyebrows raised as she looked up at the twenty-story building. “Wow.”
“Oh, just wait,” I told her, smiling wickedly as I grabbed her hand and led her to the door.
She watched me carefully when we got into the elevator, her eyes narrowing curiously when I held my key card against the sensor and pressed my floor number.
Twenty.
“What's going on?” Her voice was full of confusion.
“What do you mean?”
“Do you really live here?”
“Sure do.” I smiled as we approached my floor.
I watched her eyes widen when the elevator doors slid open to the foyer. Her jaw dropped soon after I opened the door to my apartment. She took a few slow steps in before turning to face me in awe.
“This is yours?”
I chuckled as I rubbed my chin. “Yes.”
“It’s…amazing.”
“Not bad for a mangy stray, right?” I teased her, and she immediately reddened, wrapping her arms around herself.
“I’m sorry I called you that. I was just…”
“Hey,” I said as I walked to her and grabbed her chin, tracing my thumb along her jaw. “Don’t go back there. We’re here now.” She nodded and bit her lip, her eyes dropping to my mouth. “How about I show you the bedroom?”
She smiled, her cheeks growing even darker as I grabbed hold of her hips and lifted her until her legs were wrapped around me. She was giggling as I walked down the hallway to the primary bedroom.
“This place is huge.”
“It’s the whole floor. Four bedrooms. Five bathrooms. And there’s a balcony wrapping around three sides.” It was still dark outside, so the city lights shone bright.
“So I’m guessing your apartment wasn’t actually being renovated?”
I shrugged as we reached the bedroom door. “I needed an excuse to get closer to you.”
She sat up, her lips parted, eyes staring straight into my soul. “That’s why you came back? Because of the night at the club?”
“I came back because I realized I was stupid for convincing myself I could be with someone else.”
I dropped her onto the bed and crawled over top of her. Her legs instantly wrapped around me, pulling me close.
“You were with someone else?” she asked softly. Her tone was light, but the flicker in her eyes gave her away.
“No one who mattered, Av,” I assured her.
“I tried to bury you, leave you behind, but it didn’t work.
No one ever compared to you. And then, that night…
when I saw your face, realized what we’d done, it was all over for me.
” I kissed her lips, quick and sweet. “One taste of you, and I couldn’t fathom trying anything else. ”
She considered my words, letting them sink in, but it wasn’t enough. Hurt and jealousy remained. I exhaled slowly, bringing my hands to cradle her back and neck, holding her. She was retreating from me, enough for me to notice, even if she didn’t.
“Kitten,” I purred, kissing her neck, understanding she needed to know the only woman I worshipped was under me in that moment. “You have all of me, I swear. They were distractions. Bad ones at that.”
She didn’t answer me, so I flipped us over, her on top of me, and continued as my hands massaged her thighs.
“I was using them to fill the hole inside me. I tried forgetting you, forgetting how badly I wanted you. They weren’t enough.
Their laughter wasn’t like yours. Their eyes didn’t sparkle.
They were just reminders of how fucked up I was for craving my sister.
” I pushed my hips up against her, making her gasp.
“I didn’t want anyone else, Avery. I wanted you, even when you hated me. ”
“I know it's not fair to be upset. It's just…you were my first, but you’d already…”
“Shh. I understand.” I tucked her hair behind her ear. “Trust me, if I hadn’t been your first, I might’ve been tempted to murder the man who was.”
She shot me a small, fleeting smile. “Why didn’t you say anything before?”
I chuckled. “How do you think that would have gone over? ‘Hey, sis, I think you’re hot and I can’t stop imagining what it would be like to stuff you full of my cock’.
” She was giggling by the time I finished.
“I was a coward, Av. I could have told you—should have—but I was afraid you’d reject me, hate me more than you already did. ”
“I don’t hate you,” she said sincerely, leaning down so our chests touched.
“I know, baby.” I wrapped a hand in her hair and brought her face to mine. “You’re the only thing that’s ever felt right, and I don’t deserve something so good, but I’ll spend every day convincing you I’m worth it.”
She didn’t say anything, didn’t have to. She closed the distance, pressing her mouth to mine.
No hesitation.
Only need.
For me.
