CHAPTER 23
*~* Molly *~*
Ican’t believe I jumped in with both feet with Breaker.
Honestly, what was I thinking? I’ve been alone a long time…
maybe that is what this is, me feeling lonely?
Do I need someone to lean on? Am I getting where I’m going to rely on another person, which is something I’ve not let happen since I was a teenager?
Or is it just that I am attracted to Breaker, and let my hormones take over?
“Stop thinking so much, babe,” Breaker walks into the kitchen, wraps his arms around me and kisses gently. “I’m off now. I’ll see you tonight.”
I watch as he swaggers out of the house, giving a shout to whoever is on security detail today, but he’s humming to himself. Goddamn, the man is smug.
Heading into work, I wave at Bandit and Neil, who are sitting astride their bikes across the road. They are going to be bored out of their skulls come lunchtime. I know I would be.
Tim, the new handyman, is already working in the reception area when I enter. “Morning, Tim,” I greet.
“Morning, Molly. I’m starting with the windows in reception because they are the worst of the lot. I’ll make sure they are opening and closing and the security locks are attached. I’m not sure if you know, but the locks had been unscrewed from the frame?” Tim turns and looks at me.
“No, I didn’t know, but thank you for doing that. The last thing we need is someone breaking in and getting into the drug storage.”
“I’ll be checking each window in the building. If I find anything suspect I’ll let you know, Molly.” Tim turns back to the work he’s doing, and I give Barbara a smile and wave as I pass. That reminds me I have to get a new receptionist.
I spoke to Jamie about finding a new receptionist, and she thinks she knows someone, so I left it with her for now. I check everyone’s hours and sign off on attendance. I think I can stop checking it now because no one seems to have any issues with turning up for work.
Every now and again I hear Tim passing the office door, and each time he’s singing low to himself, but I smile because it’s always a country song.
I recognize some as I like country along with other music.
He has a good mix of country though, Reba Macintyre, Alan Jackson, and Toby Keith.
I don’t know the one about a tractor being sexy!
Jamie walks into the office and plops into a chair. “Well, I have you a new receptionist. She is coming in tomorrow to work alongside Barbara. Her name is Trudy Gallagher. She’s a great person and will be reliable.”
“Okay, that’s cool. How do you know her?” I can’t help but ask.
“She’s the sister of someone I dated a long, long time ago.
But we got on well, and have stayed friends even after he and I broke up.
She’s looking for a position since she left her last receptionist job at the local dental practice.
She knows how to work a reception desk like ours, making appointments, working with patients.
She’ll be good and will slip into the role easily,” Jamie yawns, and I raise an eyebrow questioningly.
“I was called into the practice last night when one of my elderly patients had a heart attack. He’s going to be okay and is in the hospital.
Silly old fool thought he had indigestion and wanted me to give him some medicine. ”
I grin because I can imagine Jamie’s response to that, and she looks at me, knowing what I’m thinking I’m sure, by the look on my face. “Did you give him hell, Jamie?”
“Sure did, silly fool. He’s a great man, and it would have been devastating to lose him when there was no need. He has a lot more living to do, in my opinion.”
“Did you find out what happened to the inventory for the reception?”
Jamie leans forward in her seat. “I think it was Angel stealing. My theory is that she was ordering extra stock, then selling it and pocketing the money. She couldn’t have gotten money otherwise, and we both know she stole Bear’s savings, well half of it.”
I laugh. “Yeah, and Breaker told me he got it back because Bull searched for it. The silly bitch put it into a savings account, you know to accrue interest.” We both break down laughing at the idiocy that is Angel.
“The good thing is she’s gone. Tim spoke to me a few minutes ago and said he’s securing all windows and doors after he found issues,” Jamie stands.
“Tim told me about the window issues, and it’s good he is quickly securing them. I wonder if that was how Angel got things out of the practice. When everyone had gone she came back and threw stuff to someone out the window?” I ponder more than speaking directly to Jamie.
“Who knows? I’m counting it as a loss and not going to worry about it.
Tim said he’ll look at the alarm, and if it needs upgrading, I’ll speak with Bull about it.
He knows about security systems, and I’m not going to get scammed by buying something without Bull checking it out.
” Jamie gives me a wave after I nod agreement at her comment as she leaves the office.
My phone pings, and I pick it up from my desk, seeing it’s a message from Bri.
Bri: I have a message from one of the street girls. We are going to meet her after dark. You in?
Molly: Of course, I’m in. Give me the where and time?
Bri: We’ll pick you up at 8:30
Molly: OK
For the rest of the day, I keep thinking about meeting this girl on the street. I hope she can lead us to Carrie-Anne and get this issue stopped. I do not want to spend the rest of my life worrying about what she is doing, and what trouble she is going to bring to my door.
It's the middle of the afternoon, and I look up when Cannon walks into my office. “You’ve got to come with me, Molly.”
“Why? What’s wrong?”
“Whack needs you at the compound. I’ve cleared it with Jamie. Now grab your purse and let’s go.” Cannon steps back to the door, and I pick up my purse and follow, wondering what the heck is going on.
“Where’s Breaker?”
“He’s hunting.”
“Hunting? What does that mean?” I stupidly ask.
“You know what hunting means, Molly. Your sick, twisted stepsister has left a calling card for you.”
Now, I rush out of the practice behind Cannon, and the club’s SUV is sitting right outside. Cannon opens the door, and I quickly hop in. We travel to the clubhouse, but neither of us speaks. It’s not an oppressive silence, but it is silence all the same.
Walking into Whack’s office, I give him a mumbled ‘Hi.’
“Take a seat, Molly. I had Cannon bring you here because your disgusting stepsister pushed a calling card into the perimeter fencing.” Holding a small card, the size of a business card, to show me, he continues.
“It just says contact me and has what is supposed to be her digits. Now, Bull tracked the phone, and it’s one of the Cobras.
I don’t know what the bitch is up to, but she wanted you to drop into the Cobra’s reach, that I’m sure of.
I don’t know if she thought you’d pay for what she stole, or you’d be made to whore yourself to pay off her debt.
Neither scenario is happening, not in my lifetime. ”
Gritting my teeth because I’ve more than had it with her, she’s nothing but trouble.
I’ve been saying the same thing for years, but nobody would listen.
“Tonight, we have a meeting with a street kid. Bri, and Marcia that is. We are going to see what she knows, what she’s found out. I’m not living like this any longer.”
“I want to arm you, Molly. Have you ever used a gun? Knife? Mace?” Whack is leaning forward on his desk and studying my response.
“I know how to use a weapon, as I used to go to the range when I was twenty. I had a boyfriend who was a gun freak, and he was always at the range, hence, so was I. I’ve not used a knife though apart from peeling vegetables and chopping them up,” I grin at Whack and he shakes his head at me.
“With her reaching out and setting you up for the Cobras, we need to be ready for anything. We’ll have you armed, so you can fire a weapon in any assailant’s direction.” Whack smirks, “If you were lucky you’d even hit them.”
Now, I sit up straighter in my seat and give him my nastiest scowl. “I can hit the person I need to thank you very much!” Standing from my seat, I glower at him. “I’ll report after I’ve seen the street kid tonight.” Turning to Cannon I give him a frown. “Time to take me home”
I don’t hang around. I walk out of the office, wave to Bri and Marcia who are sitting at a table in the rec room. “See you later,” I shout and quickly head to the SUV. I get in and wait for Cannon to catch up.
Walking into the house a short while later, I set the coffee pot going, and head upstairs. I shower quickly and change into skinny jeans and a tee, with a hoodie over the top. I grab sneakers and put them on. I don’t want to be caught hopping if I have to run.
Downstairs I pour a mug of coffee and lean against the sink, smirking because I got out of the clubhouse without Whack giving me a gun. He’ll realize anytime now and send one of the brothers I reckon.
My phone pings, and I pick it up and see it’s from Breaker.
Breaker: I won’t be home until late. I’ve a lead on your stepsister I’m following. Stay safe, babe.
Molly: I have a lead too, and I’ll stay safe. You too, babe.
Smirking because that’s the first time I’ve said babe, and I can imagine he has that stupid half-grin on his face when he reads that.
I’m getting deeper into the, me and Breaker thing, I realize, but you know, I’m not worried about it.
All relationships have to start somewhere, and this is our somewhere.
The only thing I won’t forgive is cheating.
I cannot stand cheating assholes, whether it’s a woman or a man doing it.
A bang on the door, and I hear. “Molly, it’s Griller. I’ve got something you need to wear. Breaker has sent it.”
Opening the door, Griller steps inside and hands me a box. “What is it?” I ask as I take it from him.
“Usually, Breaker would give you this at the clubhouse and everyone would be around. But he wants you to have it before you go tonight. It’s security.
It tells everyone you are claimed by a brother of the club, an officer at that, and if anyone touches you the whole of the MC will come down on them.
” Griller waits for me to open the box and when I do I gasp as it’s a leather property cut the same as Bri and Marcia wear.
On the front, it has a patch that states, ‘Babe’. Now that has my eyes rolling because how novel is that? Turning it around, it has Property of Breaker and the club’s logo. I look at Griller, and he gives me a small smile, nodding for me to try it on.
I slide the cut on, and run my hands over the front. When I look up Griller has his phone out videoing the moment. I give a huge smile and do a turn so the back can be seen. I blow a kiss at the camera, and Griller laughs. “That’ll be good for Breaker to see, Molly.”
It’s only a few minutes before Griller leaves and I get something to eat, then get ready for Bri and Marcia to come for me.
I make two mugs of coffee and take them out to Zion and James who has a few bruises on his face.
I hand them a bag of chips each and a meal bar before stepping back in the house and waiting.
Two hours later, we are standing in an alley between two shops.
The young girl is moving from one foot to the other.
Obviously nervous about speaking with us.
“If you need help you reach out to us, now or in the future. We are more than grateful you are helping us find this bitch. She is my stepsister, and she is not worth having around. She is the reason the Broken Cobras MC is coming into town. It’s going to start a war between the MCs, if it hasn’t already. ”
Bri hands the girl an envelope. “The thousand bucks is in there. Now, quickly tell us and move so you are not seen with us. In there are our contact details. We will come for you if you need us.”
The girl gives us a look, takes the envelope and then speaks.
“She’s living in a black van. She and another woman are both horrible.
She parks the van behind the old mercantile store.
You know the one on the edge of town with the large parking lot.
She parks behind there every night. It’s really dark behind there because there are no lights working for the lot anymore.
It’s like the black van seems to melt into the shadows. ”
“Good, that’s great, thank you.” Marcia smiles, “We can get the bitch now.”
We all watch as the girl runs down the alley and disappears. We look at each other and nod that we’ve got something to follow. “Now, do we go? Tell the Cobras? Or tell Whack?” Marcia asks.
“We have to tell, Whack,” I say, “although it’s choking me to say it. I’d rather deal with my freaking stepsister myself, but if I want trust to go both ways I need to tell Whack.”
