Chapter 2 #3

“It saved your life, whatever magic you got from me.” She said she didn’t have any magic.

“Then what do you call this near miss that you just had. I saw you. You did hesitate when you got into the car. I saw you about ready to go forward, too. You’re right in thinking that you would have been hurt. ”

“What do you mean you gave me something? When we were talking last night, Brenin said that same thing. That he more than likely gave me some of his magic. I don’t believe in magic any more than I do…

the next thing you’re going to tell me is that there are vampires and unicorns around.

” She said that there were both, and she’d show them to her sometime.

“I don’t know what to believe. This is all so… I could be dead if I had gone forward.”

“You’d not be dead, but you’d be in a world of hurt.

You’re immortal as of the moment that Brenin found you.

Or you found him. I’m not sure how it worked out for the two of you.

” Nodding, not sure now if she really would have been hit or not.

“Don’t do that. Don’t make it out to be nothing when we both know that it was.

I’m going to contact Brenin and let him know that you’re safe. He’ll understand the rest of it.”

“I have to pick up my son.” She said she’d have to wait a moment until things calmed down in her heart. “I’m just fine now. I’ve had time to think about what might have happened, and I feel better. I wouldn’t have been hurt at all.”

But in her mind, she knew that to be a lie.

All she would have been able to do is look at the SUV rolled on its top to know that she would have been killed.

He’d not just gone through the light that she’d been sitting at, but he took out the stop light as well as hit the little car that she would have been behind when it came at her.

Laying her head on the steering wheel, she inhaled slowly and exhaled the same way. Slow breathing was helping her cope.

“Come on and let’s get out of the car. You might feel better if you were to stand up for a few minutes.

” Nodding, she not only got out of the car but also made sure that her purse was over her arm.

She needed things to be normal for a few minutes, or she was going to go insane thinking about what could have been.

“Just breathe. You’ll see, you’re doing fine now. Just breathe in and out for a bit.”

“I’m better now. So long as I don’t think about what could have happened, I’m better.

” She nodded but didn’t look convinced. “Really. I’m just going to keep telling myself that I was lucky that I had to put my purse on the seat next to me.

That’s what caused me to pause. There wasn’t any kind of feeling like I was going to be hurt or something along those lines.

I’m fine, and that’s all I know. Did you get in touch with Brenin? ”

“He’s on his way. He’s with my husband, Tucker.

You’ve not met any of the others yet, have you?

” Telling her that she’d barely met Brenin had her thinking again, and she didn’t want to think.

Instead, she looked at her watch and realized that she was still early to pick up Davy.

What if he’d been in the car with her when that happened?

“Oh my. I think I’m going to be sick.” She leaned over and threw up what she’d had for lunch at work.

Entitled to one meal when she worked a shift, she was glad to have it.

It not only saved her money in the long run but— “I don’t think I’m right in the head.

I keep thinking of these random things and then the accident again.

It’s like my mind is on a loop of some sort. ”

“You’re doing fine. Much better than I think I would had I just avoided a major accident. Look, there’s the men now.” She looked up and saw Brenin coming toward her, and all she could think about was that he was going to make things right for her. “She’s had a terrible fright.”

As soon as he pulled her into his arms, she knew that she was all right, and her mind seemed to settle down.

Like he just held her steady. While she didn’t know where that feeling was coming from, she wasn’t going to question it right now.

She didn’t get hurt, and that was the big outcome of all of this. And Davy was safe too.

“Something is going on. I don’t know what it is, but there is something wrong with me.” He asked her what she thought it was. “I don’t know. All I know is since I’ve met you, my world has turned upside-down and not in a good way.”

“It’s the magic that you got. If you’re not used to it, it’ll take some getting used to.

You should be able to change your clothing with just a thought, too.

I should have mentioned that last night when I was talking to you.

It happened to me today.” She asked him what else might happen.

“I don’t know what else you might have gotten from all of us.

It’s different with each woman who comes to the family.

However, I do know that you can shift into a dragon.

That was a gift from the lady earth when she said she owed us a gift for helping her out with the faeries. ”

“Enough. Please.” He nodded, then smiled at her. “You’re not as charming as you might think you are. I don’t want to know anything else right now. I have to pick up my son, and then I think we’ll go get burgers. He’ll like that better than hot dogs anyway. Then I’m going home. I have stuff to do.”

“Can I come with you?” She nodded before she thought about him being in the mix of her day. “I’ll not bring up anything unless you ask. I promise.”

“Good. Not even if you see something. Unless I ask, I’m going to assume that it didn’t happen and that I’m all right.

Just a regular person who has had a strange day.

” She looked once more at where the police were with the SUV.

There were ambulances there now, and she couldn’t help but think once again that she’d been killed had she been there.

“Nothing out of the ordinary happened, and I’m all right.

I’m going to get my son. Are you coming? ”

“Yes. I’ll drive if you don’t mind. You seem still a little off.” She told him she was fine and that she was all right with him driving. “We’ll just go up the street to turn into the daycare. All right?”

“Yes. It’s the one right there on Maple Avenue.

” Going in to get her son, she was glad for his hugs on so many levels that she didn’t know what to do about it.

Her mind was still racing, but she had a handle on it now.

As soon as she told Davy they were having burgers tonight, he was excited.

It wasn’t often she could make him happy about a change in plans, but she’d been able to do that today.

Going inside with Brenin at her side felt normal, but she wasn’t going to say that to him.

It had already been a strange day, and she wasn’t going to add to it if she didn’t have to.
