Epilogue - Caleb

“Caleb,” the voice on the phone said, pulling me out of the report I had been half-reading, half-ignoring. “Don’t forget about the meetings next week on Vancouver Island.”

I leaned back slightly in my chair, pressing the phone closer to my ear as I stared at the skyline beyond the glass.

“On Monday, the helicopter will pick you up for your first meeting at noon,” my secretary continued. “For the rest of the week, depending on how this meeting goes, I’ll finalize the schedule.”

“Noted,” I said shortly before ending the call.

Then I pushed my chair back and stood, walking toward the floor-to-ceiling window that overlooked Downtown Vancouver, a drink already in my hand.

The city was alive. Lights flickered across buildings, cars moved in endless streams below, and people filled the streets with a rhythm that never seemed to slow down.

It used to impress me.

It still did, in some ways.

But now… it felt distant.

Detached.

Like I was watching it all from the outside.

I reached for the decanter on the side table and poured myself a drink, the amber liquid catching the light before I brought it to my lips. I took a slow sip, my gaze fixed on my reflection in the glass.

I barely recognized the man staring back at me.

My hair had grown longer. My beard had filled in—rougher, less well-maintained.

There was something harder in my eyes now… something that had not been there before.

Something colder.

I turned away from the window and walked back to my desk, setting the glass down with a soft clink.

My hand hovered over the drawer.

Then I unlocked it.

I knew exactly what I was reaching for.

I pulled out the picture frame and held it in my hands, my grip tightening as my eyes settled on it.

Her.

Nyah.

Time had passed.

Too much of it.

And yet… nothing had changed.

Not where she was concerned.

My jaw clenched, and my pulse quickened.

“I’ve been patient,” I muttered under my breath, my voice low, almost unrecognizable even to myself.

Adrenaline rushed through my body as I stared at her.

“Nyah, it’s been too long…” I exhaled slowly, my grip tightening just slightly around the frame. “But I will find you.”
