Epilogue

One month later…

“So, I hear you and Hunter are house hunting. Has he asked you to marry him yet?” Kyla asked from where she sat at her computer desk.

“Yes, we’re looking for a place to live. No, he hasn’t asked me to marry him.” Savvie frowned at Kyla. “Shouldn’t you be in a lounge chair with your feet up?”

“I’m only here for a couple of minutes. My back hurts too much to sit at a computer for too long. I’ll be glad when baby Jacobs gets here, and I can have my body back.” She rubbed a hand over her belly. “Not that I mind being pregnant, but nine months has come and gone. It’s time.”

“Wasn’t your due date three days ago?” Savvie asked.

“Yes. My doctor said she’ll induce at a week over. I hope I don’t go that long.” She pushed away from the computer and smiled at Savvie. “Today would be a good day to have a baby, don’t you think?”

“Absolutely.” Savvie grinned. “Maybe it’s all a mindset.”

“Mindset? Ha!” Kyla looked down at her belly. “This child has a mind of its own.” She held onto the table as she stood, a frown ceasing her brow. “My back really is hurting. I think I’ll go lay down.”

“Hello, ladies.” Hunter entered the war room carrying a bouquet of flowers. He leaned down and pressed a kiss to Savvie’s forehead. “How’s work going? Brotherhood Protectors keeping you busy?”

“Kyla’s showing me what she does for the team so I can take over while she’s on maternity leave,” Savvie said. “Which should be soon.”

Hunter shot a smile at the pregnant woman. “Is Kyla trying to convince you to have a baby, or is she scaring you out of it altogether?”

“Both.” Savvie laughed.

Kyla’s lips twisted. “Glad I could help.” She pinned Hunter with a pointed glance. “You going to ask Savvie to marry you anytime soon?”

“I’m giving her time to know for sure I’m her one and only. When she’s absolutely sure, I’ll ask.” He winked at Savvie.

Kyla cocked an eyebrow in Savvie’s direction. “Is Hunter your one and only? Do you love him more than chocolate?”

Savvie nodded. “I do.”

Kyla turned to Hunter. “Then what are you waiting for?”

“That’s all I needed to know.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box. When he dropped to one knee, Savvie’s heart skipped several beats then sped to catch up.

“Savvie Sanders, I think you are the most beautiful woman inside and out, and I would be the happiest man alive if you’d agree to marry me.”

Savvie dropped to her knees, gathered his hands in hers, ring box and all, and pressed them to her heart. “Hunter, you’re the best thing that ever happened to me. Yes, I will marry you. The sooner the better, so we can get on with our lives together.”

Kyla pressed a hand to her back and to her belly. “Now that you’ve settled your engagement, could someone call Stone and let him know that you’re taking me to the hospital? It’s go time!”
