Chapter 13
Sam
The date with Eva had been so much fun. It was easy to talk to her. I felt I could be my true geeky self around her, and she wouldn’t judge me for it. Even though she had some issues with her cousin, she’d pushed past the confrontation so it didn’t ruin the night. And that kiss… It was just… wow. I couldn’t stop smiling today.
I needed to talk to her to see if this feeling was mutual or if I had just been caught up in the moment. I needed to see if this was going to change anything for me as a client because I doubt getting kissed was part of it. Or was it?
I pulled on a gray T-shirt and slipped on a pair of boat shoes before heading downtown to find Eva.
It was pretty quiet; I’d expected to see more than a few people out and about. But then again, it was a weekday. At the local boutiques, I pulled open the door to Heartstrings Matchmaking.
It was empty. I heard a voice coming from the back office. I didn’t know if she was with a client or on the phone. So I walked closer to the ajar door.
“Yes, I am free that weekend. I can’t wait. I look forward to seeing you there,” I heard Eva say through the opening.
She was looking forward to seeing someone. Our date had been just work and nothing more.
I heard papers shuffling and the desk chair rolling. Well, one thing I knew was I didn’t want to get caught eavesdropping on her. I spun around and headed back the way I’d come, leaving the bells clattering in my wake.
