Chapter 18

Sam

“I love you,” I said, leaning into Eva and brushing her soft lips with mine. Her mouth parted, and as our kiss deepened, it became more passionate. All the emotions we were sharing were surfacing.

“This, I could get used to.”

“Welcome to the family!” a voice called from the front porch.

We pulled back and laughed. “My bad,” I said. “What happens now with your family situation?”

“It turns out there’s this prophecy that when one of my family retires, they no longer need their gifts, their ability to matchmaker. The essence goes to the next generation. I’ve always felt a pull toward it but lacked the full power, so to speak. And in order to get it, you have a week to find your genuine match, your soul mate. Otherwise, we lose everything if you don’t. We become mortal, and all the matches we’ve assisted with could unravel. So that’s kind of why I’ve been super stressed,” Eva explained.

“I added to that stress, didn’t I?”

She nodded again.

“I’m so glad this wasn’t a spell,” I said, grabbing her by the waist and pulling her in for a deep kiss. This was the girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
