Chapter 41 - Gwen - Bumping into You
Chapter 41
Gwen
Catching the bouquet doesn’t mean anything. Right? It’s not like these flowers can tell Niall and me how to make us work after the cruise.
Tammy walks up to me. “Looks like a good sign for you and Niall’s future,” she says, nodding to the flowers.
“Umm, thanks, Tammy,” I reply.
“Hey, Gwen,” she continues. “I know things have been a bit weird with, well, me and Bradley being here, but I just wanted to let you know he thinks highly of you, even after how things ended. And personally, I think you are an amazing event planner, I saw the wedding from a distance, and it was beautiful, and this reception is just so magical.”
“Thank you, that was very kind.”
“I will be sure to tell all my friends and coworkers about your event-planning business,” Tammy says cheerily.
“Thank you, Tammy.”
Bradley walks over to us and whispers something to Tammy. She nods then heads off, leaving Bradley alone with me.
“Gwen?” Bradley asks.
“Yeah?” I say.
“I wonder if I could have a word?”
I notice that Niall is immediately on alert, but I give him a small smile letting him know I’m okay.
“Sure.”
“You really do have a knack for event planning,” Bradley starts.
“Oh, umm. Thank you?” I say. Is this really what he wants to talk to me about?
“Look I know me being here with Tammy is so crazy, but I wanted to say thank you for letting us join in on the activities this week. I’m sorry if me being here upset you. But I’m glad that it’s given me a chance to say something I should have said a long time ago, I’m sorry for the way I handled everything when we broke up. I wasn’t a supportive boyfriend, and my communication skills were definitely lacking.”
“Thank you,” I say. “That means a lot. And I want to let you know that you were right. I did put my job before our relationship. I’m sorry I didn’t see what was happening and played a part in letting things get out of control. You’re a good guy, Bradley. Not the guy for me, but a good guy, and seeing you with Tammy this week has opened my eyes to the fact that we were better off as friends. You seem to really love her.”
“I do,” he agrees. “And he seems to really love you.” He motions over to Niall.
“Yeah,” I say, unsure how to respond.
We both nod to each other, happy to have the closure, before we go our separate ways. A content sigh escapes me as I watch him walk away. I really am happy for them.
Reaching Niall and gesturing to the bouquet, I say, “Not a word about this.”
