28. Everything #2
Keene comes to wrap one arm around my shoulders, his ice-blue eyes glittering with amusement and something else I can’t quite put my finger on. “Even though Connor and Jamie didn’t help in making that, we thought that represented us perfectly. All four of us.”
He’s right. “It’s beautiful. I love it, and you’re right. It sums our relationship pretty well. Hot, bright, physical and sometimes a little messy but sexy and unique.”
“Let’s finish unwrapping it and then we can decide where it should go.”
The guys help me tear down the rest of the wrapping paper.
“Hmm, I think it should go on that wall.” I point out the wall behind the couch. It’s the place of honor.
But what’s that? There’s a piece of tape still stuck to the bottom right corner of the frame.
“Do you mind taking it off?” Jamie asks me. “You’re the only one with nails long enough to get tape.”
He’s right.
“Yeah, of course.” I crouch down and tear off the piece of blue masking tape. “What is this? Oh my God, guys!”
There’s a diamond ring stuck on the inside of the tape. It’s a white band with a large round diamond surrounded by two rows of smaller diamonds. The main stone is huge, and I’m speechless.
“Come here, kitten.” Keene offers me his hand and pulls me back up onto my feet. “There is something we wanted to ask you.”
Connor continues. “We love you more than we can express with words, Bex. You’re everything to us, and we were wondering if you would consider making us the luckiest men in the world.”
“Will you marry us?” Jamie concludes.
I realize that I’m crying only when I taste salt on my lips, tears stream down my face. “Of course I’ll marry you. You guys are everything to me too. I love you with all my heart. But wait. We can’t get married. At least I can’t marry all of you.”
Jamie takes the ring from me and holds my hand, his dark blue eyes bright and intense. “We’ve been talking about it, and there are a few solutions to our problem. You could legally marry one of us, and the other two would say I do and have a commitment ceremony together with the actual wedding.”
“Or,” Connor chimes in. “We could fly to a number of countries that allow marriage between multiple people. We wouldn’t be able to get it registered here, but we could register just one here, and the other two would still be valid in that country.
One place would be the Maldives, or we could go to Montebello.
Luca, the crown prince, used to be our teammate when we were freshmen, and I’m sure he would hook us up. ”
I don’t even have to think about it. “Yes! I love that idea. Montebello sounds like a fairytale. I watched when Prince Luca and his two teammates married Princess Lakyn. I want to marry all three of you.”
Jamie puts the ring on my finger and then pulls me closer for a celebratory kiss.
“Wait, wait.” I pant, breaking the kiss. “There’s something I need to do before we get too carried away with celebrations.”
The guys chuckle, but they know I’m right. It always starts with kisses, and we always end in bed together, all four of us. We’ve been late for countless events. They were almost late to their own graduation because they wanted to celebrate.
“What could be more important than celebrating our engagement in the best way we know? Naked,” Jamie teases.
I run to the couch to grab my tablet and hit FaceTime.
“Luke!” I squeal, showing him the ring the second my brother’s smiling face appears on video.
“Oh my God, shut up!” he squeals, lifting his own hand and showing us a diamond band.
“You got engaged too? When?” I ask, shocked and happy.
Shane comes into the frame. “I just asked him, babe. And he said yes.”
I can’t believe this. What are the odds?
“I’m so happy for you, babe.”
Tears overwhelm me again, and Luke is crying too.
“Will you be my maid of honor?” We say in unison.
The rest of the call is total chaos. Neither of us has set a date, but Luke and Shane want a winter wedding on top of the Empire State Building.
“I was thinking we could do it during the bye week in January.” Luke says.
Connor chimes in. “Sounds good. For us, it probably makes more sense to wait until the offseason next year. That’ll give us time to speak to Luca and organize everything.”
Luke and I get carried away talking about outfits and flowers and a million other details that make the entire thing so exciting.
“Hey,” Keene interrupts us. “How about you two talk about everything in Hawaii? You and Shane have the next few weeks off, right? The villa we rented is big enough for all of us. You could join us, and we could all plan everything from the beach.”
Shane and Luke agree to join us and find flights three days after we land in Hawaii.
“Ok, then.” I smile at my twin brother on the screen. “I’m going to see you in three days. We have some packing to do.”
A surprised scream escapes me when Keene hoists me onto his shoulder, fireman style, almost causing me to drop my tablet.
“Yeah, some packing and some celebrating.” He chuckles.
“Eww.” My brother teases us. “Get a room, you guys.”
Jamie and Connor wink at their former team captain, taking the tablet from my hands. “That’s exactly what we intend to do.”
