Chapter 6

What were the chances of running into Maverick’s pretty ass not once, but twice in the same day?

I had no idea she was a doctor, but how would I if I never had an actual conversation with her?

I liked that she asked Turquoise about her symptoms instead of acting like she wasn’t there.

My baby was young, but she knew the things she felt.

She couldn’t answer every question, but I filled in when she needed me to.

Celiac disease wasn’t something I was familiar with, but I would do some research once I got Turquoise settled for the night.

She seemed interested in Maverick because she had never asked a woman to come to our house to play.

I could tell Maverick wasn’t sure how to respond, so I stepped in.

I wanted her to say yeah, but I didn’t know if she had a man or not.

“A gamer, huh? I would have never guessed it,” I said as the three of us walked to the ice cream parlor inside the food court.

“Do gamers have certain looks?” Maverick looked at me and smirked.

“I mean, I guess not.” I rubbed the back of my neck with my free hand. I held Turquoise’s hand with the other.

I wasn’t sure why Maverick had me a little nervous, but I was. Maybe it was because it had been a while since I was genuinely interested in someone, and she gave off a vibe that she didn’t want her time wasted.

“I was an only child, so I had to find ways to occupy myself. I also have a cousin who develops video games, and I have been his tester for years. Have you heard of Cyrus Foster?”

I stopped walking for a second and looked at her. “Yeah. Wait, that’s your cousin?”

“Yes.”

“That’s what’s up.” I continued walking when Turquoise pulled my hand. We’d arrived at the ice cream shop, and luckily, there was no one in line.

Cyrus Foster was one of the top video game developers in the world.

The three of us stepped up to the counter and placed our orders. I prayed the ice cream didn’t affect my baby’s stomach.

“Oh, I can pay for mine,” Maverick said, reaching into her bag.

I cut my eyes at her, then handed the girl at the register my card.

“Miss Maverick, you’re going to learn not to insult me like that.”

She pushed a giggle from her glossy lips. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

We moved to the side while we waited for our ice creams. Turquoise got her favorite vanilla ice cream with rainbow sprinkles.

“It means, when you are around me, I can pay for things.”

“You think I’m going to be around you often?”

“Daddy, can I go sit down?” Turquoise asked, interrupting my response.

I glanced around to find an empty table that was close enough to keep my eye on her.

When I spotted one, I pointed to it and told her to go sit down.

I kept my eyes on her as she skipped to the table, then sat.

I turned slightly to face Maverick, but I wanted to be able to see Turquoise.

There weren’t many people around, but one could never be too sure of what someone would do.

“To answer your question, yes, I do think you are going to be around often.”

One of Maverick’s arched eyebrows kissed her hairline.

“You sound pretty confident.”

“Because I am.”

The girl told us our ice cream was ready, so I grabbed all three, then led Maverick to the table. As soon as I placed Turquoise’s bowl in front of her, her eyes lit up.

“Ooh, what kind did you get?” Turquoise asked Maverick as she peered over into her bowl.

“I got cookies and cream with Reese cups.”

“I never had that kind before.”

I dug my spoon into my bowl and put it in my mouth.

My eyes were on Maverick, but she was too busy looking at my baby to notice.

I had to keep the thoughts in my head to myself.

The creaminess of the ice cream made me wonder what it would be like to taste Maverick.

Would she be as creamy? Would she taste as good?

“Do you want to try a little?” Maverick’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

I wanted her to ask me that question because my answer would have been hell yeah, without any hesitation.

It had been a long time since I tasted some pussy.

Since shorty I fucked with from time to time was married, I didn’t put my mouth on her.

I’d be damned if I ate some pussy that didn’t belong to me.

Maverick, though, I already knew I would be in her shit the minute I got the chance to.

I watched Maverick give Turquoise some of her ice cream. I trusted her judgment on whether she should have some or not, so I didn’t say anything.

Turquoise danced in her seat as she continued to eat her own ice cream. She said she liked Maverick’s, but she liked hers better.

The feeling I had about Maverick intensified as I watched her listen intently to my baby tell her about some cartoon she watched on television the day before.

Maverick wore a smile on her pretty ass face the whole time, and even asked Turquoise questions, which the latter was happy to answer.

Their conversation went on for a few minutes until we were all done with our ice cream.

“I’ll throw this stuff away,” I told them as I stood.

“Thank you,” Maverick said, then focused her attention back on Turquoise.

When I returned to the table, I wanted to make sure Turquoise cleaned her face properly but saw that Maverick had given her a wipe and helped her out.

The small gesture made me smile. From the outside looking in, someone would think Maverick was her mother, not her doctor or a person she’d just met.

Maverick helped Turquoise from her chair, then pushed the chair in.

“Well, I’m sure this wasn’t how you planned to spend the rest of your day, but I’m glad you joined us.”

“I’m glad I did as well. The little lady is quite the character.” She smiled, then looked down at Turquoise.

I chuckled. “That she is. I don’t want to take up too much more of your time, but would you like to go on a date with me? That’s if you are single.”

It would have been a good idea to ask that before we went for ice cream, but it wouldn’t have mattered. It was harmless, but still not the right thing to do if she was involved.

A slow smile spread across her face. Her lip gloss had worn off some after eating the ice cream.

“I would like to go on a date with you, and I am single.”

“Good. I mean, that shit wouldn’t have mattered anyway.” I shrugged. “I already know we were meant for each other,” I spoke honestly.

“How? You don’t know me.”

Turquoise shifted beside me, so I knew I had to hurry it up because baby girl could be impatient at times.

“How about I tell you over dinner?”

Maverick glanced down at Turquoise, who had gotten a little more antsy. I already knew the ice cream would give her a sugar rush.

“That’s fine.”

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and handed it to her. “Put your number in, and I’ll call you with the details.”

She took the phone from my hand, and I watched her as she put her number in it.

Maverick leaned down to Turquoise’s eye level. “Bye, cutie.” She gently pinched Turquoise’s cheek, and she blushed.

“Bye.” She waved at Maverick.

“I’ll talk to you soon, gorgeous.”

Maverick’s cheeks slightly reddened.

“I’m looking forward to it.” She turned to walk away, and I watched her for a minute.

“Daddy, let’s go.” Turquoise pulled on my arm.

We left to head home. I needed to set up a good date for Maverick and me and see if my folks could watch baby girl for me.

I didn’t want to wait too long for the date, so I would see if Maverick was available within the next day or so.

I prayed that the feelings about her stayed true after the first date.
