Volume 1 Chapter 6 - The Path to Growth
The morning breeze was crisp and full of life. Cindy hovered beside a patch of glowing blossoms, the faint warmth of the Elder Tree's blessing still pulsing in her wings.
Her Blessing of Verdant Growth made her feel lighter, more attuned to every breath of wind and rustle of leaf.
"All right," she said, stretching her wings like a runner before a race. "Let's see if I can actually level up."
Puff, her ever-faithful horned rabbit friend, watched her from below, chewing on a glowing berry. His long ears twitched curiously as Cindy fluttered upward.

1. Gathering Mana
She started simple. Hovering near a spirit flower, Cindy closed her eyes and focused on the flow of wind around her.
She drew in a slow breath—not through lungs, but through her entire being—letting the mana-rich air flow through her. Her wings shimmered faintly.
A soft chime echoed in her mind.
[You have absorbed ambient mana.]
[EXP +2]
Cindy smiled. "So even breathing the air helps. Thank you, Elder Tree."
She spent the next hour flying from flower to flower, drinking nectar, soaking in sunlight, and letting the breeze wrap around her. Each time she did, faint sparkles of mana gathered on her wings.

[EXP +4]
It wasn't much, but she could feel it—slow, steady progress.

2. Helping the Forest
While exploring, she noticed a cluster of wilted flowers, their petals drooping and color fading. The mana here felt... dim.
"Oh no," she murmured. "Are you sick?"
She hovered close and placed a wing over one bloom. A soft green light pulsed from her body, guided by instinct and a whisper of healing intent.
A notification blinked before her.
[Skill Activated: Gentle Breeze + Spirit Touch]
[You have healed minor flora damage.]
[EXP +8]
The flowers lifted their petals again, color returning to them. Cindy felt her chest swell with warmth.
"I can actually help things grow... like a nurse again, huh?"
She smiled softly. Healing—no matter the world—felt right.

3. Facing Small Challenges
Later that afternoon, she spotted movement near the roots of an old tree. Tiny, glowing insects—Mana Gnats—were swarming around a fallen fruit.
Her Appraisal skill flickered:
[Mana Gnat – Level 2 | Hostile if provoked | Drops: Minor Mana Dust]
Cindy hesitated. "So... if I defeat them, I get experience too."
She didn't want to hurt anything, but she also knew she had to grow stronger to survive. With a deep breath, she focused her Gentle Breeze skill and sent a light gust toward the swarm.
The wind scattered the gnats briefly. She dived down, creating a spiral of air that trapped a few of them. They buzzed angrily, but she kept the wind tight, pushing them away from the fruit.
[Gentle Breeze – Level Up!]
[Mana Gnats repelled successfully.]
[EXP +12]
Cindy exhaled, her wings trembling. "I did it... I actually won without hurting them."
She glanced at her faintly glowing status window.

Her heart fluttered in joy. "Level five already! Just five more until I can evolve..."
Puff hopped up and nudged her lightly, squeaking in approval. She laughed and landed beside him.
"Thanks, Puff. Guess I'm getting the hang of this world."
As the sun dipped below the trees, Cindy gazed up at the glowing canopy. She thought of the Elder Tree's words—about evolution, choice, and heart.
"I won't rush it," she whispered. "I'll grow slowly. Like the forest."
The fireflies began to glow, and the sound of crickets filled the air. Cindy curled up on a leaf, her wings folding gently as she watched the stars flicker through the canopy.
Each day, each small act—breathing mana, healing flowers, learning the wind—brought her closer to the life she wanted.
And for the first time, she didn't just survive.
She was truly living.
