Volume 1 Chapter 17 - A Tiny Body, A Big World
Morning sunlight poured gently over the Flamegrass Plains, the red hue of dawn painting the sky in soft golds and oranges. The air was calm, the world quiet — except for one voice shouting in mild panic.
"W-Wait, Puff! Don't run so fast! My legs are tiny!"
Puff turned his head, his silver fur glinting in the light. Behind him, a very small Cindy fluttered awkwardly through the air, her delicate wings flapping unevenly. She wasn't used to balancing both flying and walking with her new body.
"You said you wanted to stretch your legs," Puff teased telepathically, his tone dripping with amusement. "I'm just helping!"
"Stretching my legs doesn't mean sprinting across the plains!" Cindy pouted, puffing her tiny cheeks. "And stop laughing!"
Puff didn't stop laughing.

Learning to Be Small
They finally stopped near a patch of tall grass. Cindy landed carefully, wobbling a bit as her feet touched the ground. Her body — barely the size of a newborn human baby — made every blade of grass feel like a towering tree.
"Okay... step one: standing. Step two: balance," Cindy muttered to herself.
She spread her arms, took a deep breath, and managed a few shaky steps before—
thud!
She tripped on a pebble and rolled onto her back, wings twitching.
Puff hopped over, ears twitching with amusement. "That's, what, five seconds longer than last time? You're improving."
Cindy glared up at him. "You're supposed to encourage me, not grade me!"
Puff tilted his head innocently. "I'm being supportive... in a realistic way."
"Puff!" she cried, half-laughing, half-exasperated.

Tiny Problems
After finally managing to stand, Cindy began testing her new powers.
She raised her hand, focusing on the breeze. "Gentle Breeze."
A soft swirl of air wrapped around her, carrying her lightly off the ground. It was like being lifted by invisible hands.
Her laughter rang through the meadow. "It still works! I can fly even easier now!"
She tried hovering beside Puff's head, her tiny form shimmering in the light. "Hehe! How do I look?"
Puff blinked. "Like a glowing doll with a superiority complex."
Cindy crossed her arms midair. "Excuse me! I'm a Sylphid, thank you very much!"
"Ah, my mistake, O Mighty Airborne Baby."
"Puff!!"
The two burst out laughing, their playful banter echoing across the quiet plains.

Snack Time
A few hours later, Cindy's stomach growled.
"Umm... Puff," she mumbled. "I think I'm hungry."
Puff raised a brow. "Hungry? You eat mana from flowers, right?"
Cindy nodded, but her cheeks reddened. "Yes, but now that I have, uh... a mouth, I kind of want to eat something real."
They found a patch of berry bushes nearby, glowing faintly with magic energy. Cindy floated closer, picking one with both hands. It was almost as big as her head.
She bit into it — and her eyes sparkled. "It's so sweet!"
Puff snorted. "You look ridiculous trying to eat that."
"Shh! Let me enjoy my giant berry."
She happily munched while sitting on Puff's head, juice staining her cheeks. "This might be my new favorite food."
Puff smiled, his tone softening. "You know, you seem... happier now."
Cindy looked down at him, smiling gently. "I think I am. For the first time since I came here... I feel like me again."
?
A Moment of Peace
As the sun began to set, the plains shimmered under the warm glow of twilight. Cindy and Puff sat on a rock overlooking a shallow river.
Cindy dipped her feet into the cool water, her reflection rippling beneath her tiny form.
"Do you think... I'll keep evolving like this?" she asked quietly.
Puff thought for a moment. "Probably. You're already something special, Cindy. You don't just grow stronger — you change. Like the wind."
She smiled softly. "Then maybe I'll keep changing until I can finally walk beside humans again... not just as a butterfly, but as someone who can understand them."
Puff's ears flicked in approval. "Then I'll make sure you get there. No matter what."
Cindy looked at him fondly. "You're my best partner, Puff."
He grinned. "Of course. Who else would deal with your dramatic midair speeches?"
"Hey!" she laughed, splashing him with a little water.
The two played until stars began to dot the sky, the wind carrying their laughter into the night.

Her eyes fluttered closed, her wings curling gently around her like a blanket.

The wind whispered softly through the grass — peaceful, gentle, and full of promise.
Tomorrow, new adventures awaited.
