Volume 1 Chapter 21 - The Road of Petals
The sun rose bright and soft above the canopy, washing the world in gold.
Cindy fluttered ahead, wings scattering sparkles as she glided through the air.
Puff hopped along the mossy path below, keeping pace easily, his ears twitching with every chirp and rustle.
After days of hiding and tension, the world finally felt kind again.
No adventurers. No danger. Only the whisper of the wind and the perfume of wildflowers.
"Do you think we're far enough now?" Puff asked as he sniffed a glowing blue blossom.
Cindy turned in the air, flying backward with a grin. "Far enough that if anyone does find us, it'll be because they got lost, not because they were hunting."
Puff smirked. "You sound confident for someone who hides in flowers when nervous."
"Hey!" Cindy puffed her cheeks. "That was one time—and that flower was comfortable."
"Sure it was."
Cindy threw a soft gust of air at him, ruffling his fur. "That's what you get."
Puff sneezed. "Ack! Okay, okay, I surrender!"
The two burst into laughter, the sound echoing softly through the trees.

The Field of Petals
They reached a vast meadow, painted in every color imaginable — pink, yellow, violet, and white.
The petals shimmered with faint mana, rising like glitter when the wind brushed through.
Cindy gasped softly. "It's... beautiful."
The air smelled sweet, filled with tiny motes of glowing pollen that drifted lazily in the sunlight.
Small creatures flitted between the flowers — fluffy round things with wings, chirping happily.
"Whoa, what are those?" Puff whispered, eyes wide.
Cindy flew closer to one and used Appraisal.
[Flufflet]
Tiny spirit beast. Non-aggressive. Loves nectar and gentle wind mana. Will approach peaceful beings.
"They're called Flufflets," she said with a giggle. "They like calm energy. Maybe they can sense it."
Puff tilted his head. "Then they'll love you."
And indeed, moments later, several Flufflets floated toward Cindy, attracted by the faint glow of her wings.
One landed on her hair. Another on her shoulder.
She giggled, wings fluttering gently so as not to scare them away.
Puff stared. "You've officially become Queen of the Flufflets."
Cindy smiled proudly. "I'll take that title."
?
Small Joys
They spent the morning exploring.
Cindy tested her new healing aura by touching a wilted flower — within seconds, its petals brightened again.
Puff practiced using his telepathy skill, sometimes forgetting to "turn it off," which resulted in Cindy hearing his random thoughts like "I'm hungry" or "These flowers smell like pancakes. "
"Puff!" she said, laughing. "You don't have to broadcast everything you think."
"Oh," he replied sheepishly. "Oops."
By noon, the two lay under a tree at the meadow's edge. The breeze was cool, the sky endlessly blue.
Puff chewed on a stalk of grass. "You ever think... this is what peace really feels like?"
Cindy looked up at the clouds. "Yeah. It's strange, though. I used to rush everywhere back home. Always running between rooms, between emergencies..."
Her voice softened. "Now... time feels slower. Lighter."
Puff nodded. "You deserve slow days, Cindy."
She smiled warmly. "You too, partner."
?
A Gentle Wind
A soft gust passed through the meadow — gentle, warm, playful.
Cindy's wings shimmered, and a few Flufflets followed the trail of light she left behind.
They looked like living petals, dancing through the sky.
Puff watched her twirl in the air, her laughter blending with the wind. "You look free."
Cindy closed her eyes mid-flight, feeling the sunlight, the mana, and the rhythm of the earth.
"I am," she said simply. "For now... I really am."

As the sun began to dip, painting the world in gold and amber, Cindy landed beside Puff.
"Let's camp here tonight," she said. "The flowers will keep us company."
Puff yawned, curling up beside her. "And the Flufflets will be our guards."
Several of the little creatures were already snoozing near them, softly glowing like tiny lanterns.
Cindy looked up at the first stars appearing in the sky.
The fear of yesterday felt distant now — replaced by warmth, laughter, and quiet dreams.
In this strange new world, even the smallest moments of peace felt like miracles.
