Volume 2 Chapter 13 - The Winds Nobility

The great hall of the royal palace shimmered with sunlight streaming through colored glass. Gold and sapphire hues danced across the marble floor, illuminating banners bearing the crest of the Vanelle Kingdom — a silver hawk soaring above a rising sun.

At the center of the chamber stood Cindy and Puff, facing the royal throne once more. But this time, the air carried something different — not tension, but recognition.

Trumpets sounded as the royal herald stepped forward.

"In recognition of valor, wisdom, and unmatched service to the Kingdom of Vanelle," the herald proclaimed, voice echoing across the vast chamber, "His Majesty decrees that Cindy of the Wind shall henceforth bear the title of Viscountess of Aerith Vale, and be granted fiefdom over its lands and people. "

The murmurs that followed rippled through the crowd — courtiers, nobles, and knights, each whispering the name Aerith Vale.

It was no ordinary land.

Aerith Vale was a lush valley to the north, kissed by constant wind currents and rich in ancient mana — a place long considered sacred to air spirits.

Cindy blinked in disbelief. "Your Majesty... I..."

King Arcturus rose, his silver mantle trailing like sunlight on snow. "You have served the kingdom and the balance of the Spirits with selflessness. Few among nobles can claim such heart. It is only fitting that the winds themselves have a guardian who understands them."

Queen Lirianne smiled gently. "And perhaps... Aerith Vale will serve as a bridge — between human and spirit, mortal and eternal."

Cindy bowed deeply, heart thudding with humility and confusion. "Then I shall accept, not for glory, but to protect and preserve the harmony of that land."

The King nodded solemnly. "So be it."

He gestured to a knight beside him, who stepped forward with a ceremonial sword. Cindy knelt, the blade's edge touching her shoulder lightly.

"By the will of the crown and the trust of the Spirits, rise, Viscountess Cindy Aerith — Guardian of the Northern Wind."

The New Title

Outside the palace gates, the air felt lighter again, though Cindy still looked dazed. Puff floated beside her, his expression a mix of awe and confusion.

"So, uh... does this mean you're like, a fancy lady now?"

Cindy laughed softly. "I suppose so. Though I don't quite feel like one."

Puff crossed his arms, feigning seriousness. "Viscountess Cindy Aerith, Guardian of Snacks and Defender of Windy Valleys!"

Cindy chuckled. "I'll make sure to put that on the banner."

They walked through the palace gardens as servants and knights bowed in passing. Cindy still wasn't used to the attention. She'd gone from an emergency room nurse in her old life... to a butterfly spirit... to a noble.

It almost felt surreal.

Yet, beneath the humor, there was a quiet weight to her new title — a responsibility she didn't yet fully understand.

?

Aerith Vale

Later that afternoon, a royal envoy presented her with documents and a map.

Aerith Vale lay far north, near the borders of the Wind Peaks. The region had been uninhabited for years — a forgotten fief after its former lord vanished during the last war.

Now, it was hers.

Puff peered at the map, ears twitching. "Looks peaceful. Lots of forests and rivers. Think there are any monsters?"

"Probably," Cindy murmured, tracing her finger along the mountain line. "But also spirits. The wind there feels... alive."

She looked out the palace window, where the wind stirred the flags of the kingdom.

"Maybe this is what the Spirits wanted. A place where both humans and spirits can coexist again."

The Court's Whisper

As night fell, the palace ballroom buzzed with quiet gossip.

A common-born adventurer turned Spirit Envoy... now Viscountess. Some nobles frowned; others watched with interest.

But in the shadows of a marble column, a hooded figure smiled faintly.

"So, the Butterfly has spread her wings even further... How interesting."

The figure slipped away, unnoticed, leaving behind only a faint trail of embers that flickered and vanished into the air.
