Volume 2 Chapter 15 - Journey to Aerith Vale
The dawn after the royal feast broke calm and bright.
Mist rolled lazily over the rooftops of the capital, glowing gold beneath the early sun. The city still slept, but the palace gates had already opened for two travelers preparing to depart.
Cindy stood beside a light carriage drawn by spirit-bred horses — creatures with faint trails of mana drifting from their manes. She wore her travel attire once more: her light armor, a cloak trimmed with silver thread, and the royal crest of Aerith Vale embroidered over her heart.
Beside her, Puff inspected the carriage's interior, already halfway buried in a pile of provisions. "Okay, snacks? Check. Extra water? Check. Three backup snacks? Also check."
Cindy smiled softly. "I see your priorities haven't changed."
"Hey," he said with mock seriousness, "a traveling familiar needs his strength. What if we run into some terrifying wind monster? I'll need energy to scream and hide behind you."
Cindy laughed. The sound mingled with the morning breeze, soft and pure.

Departure from the Capital
As they set out through the capital's cobblestone streets, the people waved and called out blessings.
"Safe travels, Lady Aerith!"
"May the winds favor your path!"
Cindy smiled and waved gently from the carriage window. The attention still felt strange — it was only months ago that she'd been wandering the forest as a lost butterfly, afraid and alone.
Now, she was being sent off like a noble.
It didn't feel quite real.
Puff sat beside her, watching the cheering crowd. "They really like you, huh?"
"I just hope I can live up to what they expect," Cindy murmured.
Puff tilted his head. "You always do. That's your thing."

Through the Countryside
By midday, the capital's walls had faded into the distance, replaced by wide fields and gentle hills. The air grew cooler, filled with the sound of rushing streams and whispering leaves.
Cindy leaned out the carriage window, letting the wind brush her face. It carried a strange familiarity — as if greeting her.
Welcome home... child of the breeze.
She smiled faintly. The voice wasn't clear, but she could feel its warmth in her heart.
The road northward wound through rolling meadows dotted with windmills and wildflowers. The further they traveled, the stronger the wind currents became — soft, playful gusts that seemed to guide their path.
Puff peeked out the window. "It's like the whole forest's alive out here."
Cindy nodded. "It is. The spirits are watching us."

The Whispering Hills
By late afternoon, they reached the edge of the Whispering Hills — a stretch of grasslands that marked the beginning of Aerith Vale's borders. The wind here moved in visible swirls, lifting petals and leaves into glowing ribbons of light.
The carriage slowed as Cindy stepped out to stand on the crest of a hill.
Before her lay the valley.
A breathtaking sight — endless waves of green forest, rivers glinting like silver threads, and at its heart, a towering spire of stone wrapped in vines, glowing faintly with ethereal blue light.
Puff's jaw dropped. "Whoa..."
Cindy could only whisper, "It's beautiful."
The wind stirred around her, strong and gentle all at once, as if embracing her.
"Welcome, Viscountess of Aerith Vale... Guardian of our breath and freedom."
Her heart thumped. She could feel it — the countless tiny spirits in the air, greeting her, curious and joyful.
She closed her eyes, spreading her arms slightly as her hair and cloak danced in the breeze.
For the first time, she felt it clearly — the pulse of the land, the rhythm of the wind, and the faint promise of something ancient sleeping beneath the valley.

Arrival at Aerith Manor
At the valley's base stood a small, ivy-covered estate — the former lord's residence, long abandoned but intact.
When Cindy and Puff arrived, the servants sent by the crown were already there, cleaning and preparing the halls.
The steward, an older man with kind eyes, bowed deeply.
"Welcome to Aerith Manor, my lady. It is an honor to serve the new guardian of the Vale."
Cindy smiled. "Please, there's no need for formality. I only wish to protect and understand this land."
The steward's expression softened. "Then the winds have truly blessed us."

Evening in Aerith Vale
That night, Cindy stood on the balcony overlooking her new domain. The moonlight shimmered on the rivers, and the valley's winds carried a low, melodic hum — the sound of harmony between spirit and nature.
Puff floated beside her, munching a cookie. "So, this is home now, huh?"
"Yes," she whispered. "Home."
The wind brushed past her cheek, warm and alive. She closed her eyes, feeling it whisper like an old friend.
"The balance shifts... one spirit sleeps, another stirs...
Protect this land, daughter of wind."
Her eyes opened slowly, calm but determined. "I will."
